The Acidic Cannon Beetle is a relative of the Armored Cannon Beetle in Pikmin: The Rising Darkness that launches balls of corrosive acid rather than boulders, which disintegrate all but Green Pikmin upon contact. The acid balls the creature launches from its mouth splatter onto anything within its vicinity upon impact with a wall or obstacle. Most enemies that suffer a direct hit from an acid ball launched by the Acidic Cannon Beetle instantly die, which is a useful tactic to use against the numerous Spotty Bulbears inhabiting the Valley of Grief. When the Acidic Cannon Beetle inhales to launch an acid ball, throwing a Pikmin into its blowhole will cause it to open its wing casings, causing acid to pour out from its exposed body and which creates a wide trail of acid in its wake as it attempts to flee.
