The Anode Dweevil is a yellow dweevil that emits an electrical discharge when agitated by attacks. This suitably makes Yellow Pikmin the best choice in battle. Since Purple Pikmin can stun any small dweevil, they also work well; however, this is a very risky strategy. Anode Dweevils also pick up dead foes and treasures, which is common to all dweevils.

Notes

Olimar's observations

Although certain dweevils don't seem to be present this time, this one hasn't gone anywhere. It happens to be one of the most threatening dweevils due to how potent electricity is to Pikmin. It's best to only fight them with yellows and leave the others out of it's sight.

Cookin' with Louie

Raw anode dweevil makes for an unforgettable sushi treat, but if it is not prepared by an expert hand with exacting precision, consumption could result in a jolting electrical explosion of apocalyptic proportion.

Attacks Electrocutes Pikmin

The Alkaline Dweevil is a dweevil that appears in Pikmin 2: New Year as a relative of the Anode Dweevil. Despite it fleeing from nearby Pikmin and leaders and initially appearing harmless, the Alkaline Dweevil is incredibly dangerous because it uses electricity to defend itself when attacked, which instantly kills any Pikmin in its range except Yellow Pikmin. Alkaline Dweevils will pick up and carry nearby objects, such as treasures and corpses, ducking down to hide under them when alone, using them as a disguise.

Alkaline Dweevils have cream-colored skin, a pair of golden eyes above a pair of red eyes, a pair of mandibles with green bristles, and white markings on their legs.

As dangerous as their electricity makes them, Alkaline Dweevils are small and frail and can easily be defeated by throwing Pikmin onto their underside. An Alkaline Dweevil can not be harmed while it is carrying an object, requiring it to be forced off the creature before any damage may be dealt. Purple Pikmin pounds are effective against lesser dweevils such as the Alkaline Dweevil in their range as they not only stun the creatures but also force off an object they may be carrying.

Watch out for this spider's deadly volts! – The ship, upon discovering the Anode Dweevil

The Anode Dweevil is a returning enemy appearing in Pikmin: Decayed Leaf. They resemble spiders with a hard, yellow exoskeleton and four spindly, black-tipped legs attached to their body. Four eyes with blue sclerae and a pair of mandibles with magenta bristles are located on the Dweevil's face.

Anode Dweevils will wander around, hunting for objects to pick up, usually a treasure. This treasure can act as a form of armor, as Pikmin must detach the object before attacking the enemy. Once they pick up this item, they will remain idle or run away with it. If they were to run into a pit, the item would be thrown back out of the pit and onto the ground for safekeeping. If the treasure is knocked off of the Dweevil, it will attempt to flee. If attacked further, the Anode Dweevil will shake off Pikmin before creating a massive ring of electricity around its legs. This electricity, although it only lasts for a few seconds, can quickly kill any Pikmin not resistant to it.

The Anode Dweevil can be very dangerous to take on. Using Yellow Pikmin or Statue Pikmin is the safest course of action due to their resistance to electricity. Throwing a Weighted Pikmin or Purple Pikmin directly onto the Anode Dweevil can also deal massive damage, half of its health at once.

In Overlord mode, the Anode Dweevil can zap Pikmin even if it's carrying a corpse or treasure, meaning it can be even more dangerous to take on.

Notes

  • P3 Data file icon.png Data file #1: Anode Dweevils are the most dangerous of Dweevils. Take great caution in killing them.

Olimar's notes

So why do Dweevil's collect treasures? I've been researching this for a while, and it varies between species. The Anode Dweevil will collect certain metal treasures that can conduct electricity, or perhaps have volts or acid stored within it. It will then attempt to get through this electricity with its strong mandibles. The mandibles of a Dweevil are not be underestimated, as they can carry objects up to a thousand times its mass.

Louie's notes

When you bite into an eyeball of this spider, it delivers a small shock. For an interesting candy, glaze the eyeball on a fine sugar coating. Wait for it to harden in the fridge for a few hours after adding any powder flavoring. Remove from fridge, and pop into your mouth for a hard, but shocking treat to bite through.

President’s notes

I can relate to this bug with one thing: we love to collect treasures. THEY JUST NEED TO STOP STEALING MINE!! Give them back!

Overlord’s thoughts

It seems in exchange for venom, this arachnid decides to use volts instead. They also shed four legs... and eyes... and grew mandibles... with bristles... is Olimar sure that these guys are a relative of arachnids?

The Anode Dweevil appears in Pikmin: Dual Worlds. This species of dweevil acts a bit differently from its Pikmin 2 incarnation in that it ejects a sort of small anode from holes on its mandibles, connected to each other by tiny threads. The anodes will constantly glow a faint yellow and the dweevil will glow a cyan color when it's about to attack. It does so by electrifying itself, as well as the anodes and threads. An anode will always connect to the closest and second closest anodes to itself and never have more than two connections. Anodes and threads are destroyed on use. Overall, it acts similarly to the Titan Dweevil's Shock Therapist attack, albeit more like a sort of trap.

Attacks Electrocutes Pikmin

The Surge Dweevil is a species of lesser dweevil appearing in Pikmin: Wide World. It explores its small territory on dry land or in shallow water, by itself or with other creatures including its own kind, periodically idling in place, and flees from approaching danger such as Pikmin or leaders. When near an object that requires the strength of up to ten Pikmin to carry, a Surge Dweevil will scurry towards it, lift it with its pincers as it scrambles underneath, and then proceed to carry it around on top of its body, holding it firmly using its pincers. They typically are already equipped with an object. However, they do not interact with any bomb rock variant, and in fact avoid them, perhaps aware of their destructive potential. While alone and in possession of an object on land, they fold their legs underneath themselves to sit down, also burying them if the terrain under them is soft to better conceal themselves. When the object a Surge Dweevil is holding is nudged, it will be startled out of its disguise and begin to flee. Surge Dweevils can take unattended objects as easily as they can any being carried by Pikmin or dragged by a breadbug, leaving either stranded from the object. Surge Dweevils also attempt to pick up leaders that are lying down, though leaders they do that to immediately get up. In caves, Surge Dweevils are not always initially present on the ground, as they may use strands of their silk to rappel down from cave walls when Pikmin or leaders come near. Until they reveal themselves, they can not be seen in the darkness even with the HocoPad's camera function, but if the ceiling is low enough, the camera's flash may startle them and send them plummeting to the ground below. Surge Dweevils that rappel down are never already holding objects.

Surge Dweevils are fairly-sized spider-like insects that have a yellow exoskeleton, a round body, a pair of purple eyes above two teal eyes, four slender legs that each end at a fine, dark point, a pair of arms that dangle from their body when in a neutral position and terminate in a pair of pincers, and a pair of mandibles that each have red bristles on the outer side of their ends.

Although easy to kill, Surge Dweevils can be problematic to hit because of their small frame and are even more so while carrying an object, which inadvertently shields them from harm. To remove an object from its possession, simply throw a few Pikmin, or a single Purple Pikmin, at it or harm the dweevil sufficiently. Depending on the choice, the dweevil will either lack the strength or endure too much pain to continue holding the object. The only time they attack is in retaliation, during which they stand as they begin to glow white and crackle with electricity, affecting inapt Pikmin even then, before discharging it under their body, the electricity itself surging through the ground a short distance in an outward direction. In water, the electricity has a much longer range. The optimal way to defeat one is to stand under it and rapidly throw Pikmin, preferably Yellow Pikmin because of their electricity resistance, at its softer main body. Attacking its legs also works but is far less effective as they are very damage-resistant. The fastest way to take down a Surge Dweevil, and any other lesser dweevil, regardless of it carrying an object, is with Purple Pikmin; their pound removes objects from its grasp and the impact of the Pikmin landing on it slams the dweevil's body to the ground, instantly killing it. On top of that, Purple Pikmin pounds always stun any Surge Dweevil caught in their range. Upon death, they spasm shortly before inverting themselves and curling their legs, but if killed by a Purple Pikmin pound, they simply go limp with their legs outstretched instead.

In ultra-spicy difficulty, Surge Dweevils take half as much time to execute their retaliatory attack. Their attack also has a slightly larger range, and on land, produces short-lasting sparks that bounce along the ground and off walls until they abruptly dissipate.

Notes

  • PWW Data file icon.png Data file #1 (all difficulties): Surge Dweevils unleash a surge of electricity when under attack.
  • PWW Data file icon.png Data file #2 (ultra-spicy difficulty only): The Surge Dweevil's attack has quite a range and creates sparks.

Olimar's comments

PWW Captain Olimar icon.png This creature's striking yellow exoskeleton is the only warning it gives about its deadly electric discharges. It's best not to interfere with it, at least not without apparel to protect against electrical shock. Now where's my rubber diving suit... Oh right, back at home.

Shacho's comments

PWW President icon.png I know I'm usually all about the prospect of selling off this planet's resources, but I'm not sure I would pick this bug as my backup generator. I'd be better off powering Hocotate Freight with an army of hamsters on wheels!

Marie's comments

PWW Marie icon.png This... is another dweevil I can't recommend having as a pet. Guess why? One little scare, and ZAP! BZZT! Whatever electrical onomatopoeia you want to use.

Louie's comments

PWW Louie icon.png This bug's flavor will shock you! ...All jokes aside, the meat will deliver a notable tingly sensation while being chewed. It's pretty unique from anything I've had so far.

Dolphin Lander's comments

PWW Dolphin Lander icon.png If there's one thing I know about dweevils, it's that they always have a trick up their figurative sleeves. Even after death, their corpses give off a faint electrical interference I have to deal with whenever they're stored in my hold. If this keeps up, I'm going to have to say something.

The Anode Dweevil appears in Pikmin: The Winds of Light. They are encountered at the Summoning Garden, near Comrade's Cavern. In Melodic Maze, one is on sublevel two, and the one on sublevel five has the Curious Manifestation. Four Anode Dweevils are on the bridge on sublevel nine of Yellow Depths.

Notes

Olimar's notes

I have noticed that, in some ways, Anode Dweevils are similar to Yellow Pikmin. They are both resistant to electricity, and they can carry massive objects (Yellow Pikmin need more than one to carry some objects, however). Now, if only I could find a way to get them to help me...
