Attacks Rams into Pikmin and leaders

The Battering Groink is a day-only groink appearing in Pikmin Z. Its body shape is fairly similar to the Gatling Groink, but with smooth, blue skin, and the frontal shell resembling a silver shield rather than a windshield. It's slightly larger than a Gatling Groink and has shorter exhaust pipes.

Biology

  • Diet: unknown
  • Predators: unknown

Battering Groinks are a rather interesting type of biomechanical creature only found during the day, as opposed to the night-only Gatling Groink. While it is unable to shoot projectiles, it's still just as dangerous because once a Pikmin or a leader enters its vicinity, it will proceed to charge at fast speed right into them. This is especially dangerous as it can launch Pikmin into hazards. If two are present in the same area, both Battering Groinks can ram into each other, killing whatever's in between the two by crushing them.

Piklopedia entry

"It's difficult to say if this is indeed a creature or some ancient technology, but one thing I can say is that it's an interesting alteration to a typical groink. Having to sacrifice such a potent weapon for a durable shield make this creature quite noble."

Strategy

The Battering Groink can't be attacked head-on due to its durable shield, and its charging will have to be avoided in order to reach its vulnerable backside. This can be a bit difficult within dungeons, as most encounters are in enclosed spaces. It can't harm directly unless there's more than one Battering Groink present, but it's still worth avoiding as hazards are found with Battering Groinks as well, or it can kill Pikmin by ramming them into a wall or other solid objects.
