The Beady Long Legs is a common member of the arachnorb family. The only attack the creature has is stomping about, its four feet crushing any Pikmin they land on. Its weak spot is its orbicular torso; given its height, Yellow Pikmin are normally necessary for a fast kill.

The Beady Long Legs is a returning arachnorb in Pikmin 2... Again?, after 23 years of absence, taking its place back from the Baldy Long Legs. It receives a slight redesign, as its feet are flatter and more resemble those of the Shaggy Long Legs and Groovy Long Legs, though lacking nails and appearing more natural than artificial, and the orbs around its joints are absent, revealing joints that also resemble those of its relatives. Additionally, it retains its red-and-yellow coloration, but its yellow abdomen has wavy red stripes, and two of its legs are yellow with red stripes while the other two are the opposite. The Beady Long Legs keeps its previous behaviors of stomping around, crushing any Pikmin it steps on except Rock Pikmin on a soft surface. Additionally, its legs are resistant to explosions, and the Beady Long Legs has more health. Once defeated, the Beady Long Legs' head will open, dropping a treasure before crumbling apart into nothingness. Due to the introduction of more powerful arachnorbs, the Beady Long Legs is considered a miniboss.

Classic Beady Long Legs, it seems like I can never get away from it! Even though I should be used to these things, they seem stronger and faster than I'm used to. Oh, what else is new? It seems like that applies to almost all of these creatures.

Attacks Crushes Pikmin

The Beady Long Legs, in Pikmin Forever, is able to create small depressions in the ground where it stomps, slightly raising the chances of a Pikmin tripping. If enough Pikmin are thrown onto its main body, it will move much slower. If enough Pikmin are thrown onto its feet, it will pick up its feet slower but will bring the foot down faster and more forcefully, making the depression created by the foot larger. Pikmin will also be thrown off every time a foot stomps. Pikmin are a bit smarter, jumping out of the way of the foot if they are idle or are currently chasing the foot, but Pikmin in a leader's squad will not try to avoid the foot. Each of the beads on its legs can be attacked, much like the Shaggy Long Legs, lowering the boss's health each time one is defeated. A destroyed segment smokes a bit more, as well as the foot shaking once both segments of each foot are destroyed. The most the boss's health that can be taken off by the segments is half of its starting health. Once it is defeated, instead of opening in half, its feet and legs disintegrate and the body falls onto the ground. If it contains something inside, Pikmin thrown onto it will latch on and start attacking it. It has the same amount of health as a Red Bulborb, and once the body is defeated, it will explode harmlessly and scatter Pikmin around, revealing what was contained inside. If it does not have anything inside, Pikmin will try to pick it up, with a required twenty Pikmin and a max of forty Pikmin. It can then be taken to either an Onion to receive twenty Pikmin or to the ship to be salvaged for twenty metal units.

The Beady Long Legs is an item in Pikmin Kart. It appears rarely from item boxes, but more often if the user is in a lower place. When used, a Beady Long Legs drops down a little bit before the kart in first place and starts stomping around. If a kart is hit by its feet, it'll be temporarily stunned and flattened for a while, driving slower. The Beady Long Legs will remain there for the rest of the race, but if another Beady Long Legs item is used, the monster will jump to the new location. The boss will avoid stepping on the one who called it.

In Pikmin V, the Beady Long Legs has been visually updated so that the wax is glossy; it is also thinner on its abdomen and nonexistent on its joints, revealing yellow-ish skin underneath. Its behavior is now more like a Baldy Long Legs: it never stops to rest, but its lower joints can be attacked by Pikmin to cause it to stagger; this stops its movements for a few seconds and causes it to lower its main body low enough for non-Yellow Pikmin to reach. A new variant called the Icebound Long Legs is also introduced.

Notes

Brittany's notes

The Beady Long Legs is the type specimen of the Arachnorb family, which has evolved convergently to behave like spiders. This is evidenced by the presence of an endoskeleton, which spiders do not have, that serves to create the genus's eponymous long and sturdy legs. Resultingly, some species like the Beady have developed a replacement exoskeleton in the form of waxy, hardening secretions, making them quite formidable.

Olimar's notes

Its legs are coated in an impervious wax. Its eponymous spherical joints are its weak points, as they can be attacked to cause the main body to stagger and fall. The body can also be reached by Yellow Pikmin directly, if you're willing to step between its stomping feet.

Louie's notes

Even if you ignore the obvious that its body disintegrates on death, the remains are also poisonous. They're probably wax, because samples scraped off of a living organism are, you guessed it, poisonous.

Shell is the Beady Long Legs that appears in Pikmin: Antarctic Survival. Shell is mute, and as such is not able to speak in the "universal language" even after her Awakening, instead communicating in a combination of head tilts and stomps and other foot motions, similar to sign language. Even before being Awakened, Shell was mute, and as such did not make the groans and roars that are typical of the Beady Long Legs, completely silent other than the creaking of joints and stomping of feet. Most of the Awakened residents of the Diamond Settlement are unable to understand Shell's language of gestures, and as such she will often also communicate through tracing pictures in the ground, such as introducing her name by drawing a seashell.

Shell is a cautious and resourceful creature, as she had to survive in a dangerous region full of a variety of powerful creatures from a young age. Shell is quick to react to sudden danger, very athletic, and usually has an escape plan in mind out of any situation. Even prior to her Awakening, she will avoid an encounter with an exploration team if she thinks she would be outmatched in a possible encounter, and will attempt to retreat and avoid the group. She has a tendency to underestimate smaller creatures, as only larger creatures were a serious danger to her in the past. She especially considers Pikmin to be completely nonthreatening, but she will quickly learn otherwise if she is ever seriously injured in a fight with any Pikmin, after which point she will be much more cautious and tactical around groups of Pikmin.

Shell grew up in a tropical region of PNF-404 close to the seaside, where she would often wade into shallow pools and stomp down on small creatures swimming in the water that she could eat. The region was home to other Beady Long Legs, as well as some Fruity Long Legs, most of which understood Shell's physical language. However, the creatures of the Antarctic do not understand her, which she finds quite frustrating. Over time, the residents of the Diamond Settlement can pick up on the meaning of her gestures and will better be able to understand her.

Canonically, Shell is named after seashells, as she grew up in a tropical seaside region. However, the other reason she has this name is that she is named after Chell from the Portal series. Much like this character, Shell is primarily associated with the color orange, is a cautious survivalist, and does not speak. The similarity to the character of Chell is a reference to the third entry of the unreleased Pikmin Survival Saga, which bizarrely featured the silent protagonist of the Portal series somehow getting her consciousness transferred into the body of a Beady Long Legs, which was one of the main characters of the game. While Shell is a completely different character unrelated to this strange detail, she still references this unreleased game.

In Pikmin: The Bulblaxian War, the Beady Long Legs appears as a boss every now and then. It has much health, and sometimes the arena it is fought in will benefit the Pikmin more than it. For example, when it is fought in the Temple of Ice, it will sometimes slip on the ice there; upon defeat, it will drop the Corruption Circle. Another one attacks Base Camp at one point in the story, opening up access to the Forest of Symbiosis; the one there drops the Ominous Crate.

Notes

Olimar's notes

The beady long legs, one of the most recognizable members of the arachnorb family, has feet that keep it stable under most conditions but will cause it to slip when on ice. In order to defeat it, one must batter away at the armor until the decay organ triggers, causing the creature to quite literally fall to pieces.

Ship's notes

I wish I was a beady long legs. Red bulborb? Squish it. Annoying captain? Squish it. Flame-breathing creature? Squish it. Alas, I'm not beady long legs. Sigh.

Oh Pokos! The Beady is Back! – The ship, upon discovering the Beady Long Legs

The Beady Long Legs is a returning species of arachnorb in Pikmin: Decayed Leaf. The arachnorb, like most of its kind, has a large orb as its main body. The orb is seemingly made of a golden-brown, waxy material. Four large legs with ridged, small feet extend from the orb which allow for the Beady Long Legs to walk.

The Beady Long Legs can be found out of view in its arena. Once the leaders and Pikmin enter the center of the arena, the spider will drop down and slam its four feet into the ground, initiating the boss fight. The Beady Long Legs is much more vicious than its previous incarnation. Not only is the arachnorb stronger, but it is also much faster as well, able to complete a full foot stomping cycle in half the time it originally was able to. Shockwaves from Purple Pikmin are also no longer able to damage its feet. The height of the boss makes it hard to reach for most Pikmin types. However, if damaged, the Beady Long Legs will shake off the Pikmin. If provoked again, it will shake off the Pikmin and begin to shake. This is the cue to run, as the Beady Long Legs will increase its stomping speed in a rage. It will slam all four feet in two seconds for ten seconds before calming down. Due to the material they are covered by, its legs cannot be climbed by Pikmin.

The Beady Long Legs can be terrifying to take on. Yellow Pikmin and Winged Pikmin are best suited to take on the boss due to their height superiority. Fur Pikmin can latch on to the boss and stay there for extended periods, even when the arachnorb is in a frenzy. Rock Pikmin and Weighted Pikmin are also immune to the blunt force of the beast, but they may have a hard time actually reaching the orb of the boss. When killed, the boss will release a small group of Unmarked Spectralids.

In Overlord mode, the Beady Long Legs will drop two Anode Dweevils upon defeat.

Notes

  • P3 Data file icon.png Data file #1: The Beady Long Legs is much stronger and more deadlier now!
  • P3 Data file icon.png Data file #2: Don’t anger the Beady Long Legs! It’ll lash out in a raging frenzy!

Olimar's notes

The Beady Long Legs is a strange species. No eyes, ears, mouth, nose... no sort of orifice is located on this creature. Other arachnorbs can eat bugs by opening their orb cavities, like Baldy Long Legs. However, this creature has not been seen doing that. It is widely unknown how this creature feeds, or why the arachnorb species keeps constantly leveling land.

Louie's notes

Inedible AND poisonous. Do NOT consume at any cost.

President’s notes

When Olimar came back from the planet for the first time, he told me about this giant, golden spider creature. It seems I get to see it yet again. Good to know it's even scarier than before...

Overlord’s thoughts

The Beady Long Legs. A classic arachnorb. When Olimar fought this beast for that one ship part, you know, I was watching his fight. It’s amazing how he managed to adapt so quickly to my home world.

In Pikmin: Interstellar Cryptid, the Beady Long Legs appears as it does in Pikmin 2, but updated to have higher definition. It appears descending from the fig tree on the opposite side of Shade Tree Sanctum in Sweltering Field. Bulldust coats the floor of its arena, which scatters in the air and makes Pikmin panic. Since Pikmin can not climb their legs, Yellow Pikmin are required to defeat it. When defeated, a large fissure will split its abdomen in half and it will drop a ship part and the Delectable Bouquet. The rest of its body then falls over and crumbles to a fine powder indistinguishable from the bulldust.

Notes

Olimar's notes

A species of insectoid-like bug disguised as an arachnid, the beady long legs is a bizarre creature with an exoskeleton made of seemingly artificial materials like silicon, and internal organs coated in heavy metals. The area above its ball-shaped abdomen, where its joints meet, is where all of its organs seem to be stored. Most arachnorbs are far from aggressive, but use the sheer strength of their legs and feet to stomp on creatures it presumes as a threat to its territory. Ironically, the beady long legs has no predators. The waxy secretions on its body make it slippery to the touch, and give it its iconic patterns.

Louie's notes

Inedible. Consumption will make you writhe on the ground with the creepiest grin known to the common hocotatian. Its remains taste like wood ashes anyway...

Bentley's notes

Heh, now THAT was a scare! I'll have to keep my eyes on the ceiling in the future, because this punk got me good. Maybe next time, it'll be me getting it!

Eloise's notes

Its constant stomping sending tremors through the ground is not all too fun. I'm always being rattled in my own space suit due to this creature!
