The Dwarf Orange Bulborb appears in Pikmin 4: The World to Free. It behaves like other dwarf bulborbs, but can scream to wake up nearby Orange Bulborbs and can swim in water.

Notes

Tike's notes

Despite being a cousin to the Dwarf Red Bulborb, they have excellent lung capacity. They can scream for as long as five minutes! Actually, they don't even have to use a fraction of that energy to get a guardian's attention, which would be an Orange Bulborb of course. They also can run faster and even swim underwater. Wow, they actually could surpass their guardian if it weren't for their weak exoskeletons.

Alice's notes

I am completely baffled at how every breadbug hasn't followed these guys' footsteps. They're cuter, smarter, and they can swim! If only they weren't so vicious... that way I could train them to do tricks. However, one thing I would watch out for is to not teach it any type of backflip tricks. I could see that going very badly.

Captain Pikmin's notes

The same thing for other dwarf bulborbs applies, but if they are in water you can't crush them. Plus if it is nearby an Orange Bulborb, this little guy won't have any hesitation to use its ear-piercing scream to call for some assistance.

In Pikmin V, Dwarf Orange Bulborbs have a slight change in behavior. Much like the dwarfs in Pikmin 1, one will let out a cry when killed that awakens nearby Orange Bulborbs.

Notes

Brittany's notes

The extent to which the breadbug mimics will go is amazing. Not only has the Orange Bulborb's coloration been copied, but its developed senses have also been acquired. It has a tendency to hunt farther from the "parent" because of this, which somewhat tarnishes the relationship.

Olimar's notes

When killed, it will scream loud enough to awaken nearby adults. Its increased senses become its downfall, as it is easy to lure away from the group. They can still be killed with a direct hit.

Louie's notes

In contrast to the big guy it imitates, the Dwarf Orange Bulborb is quite lean, with a very interesting flavor profile that connoisseurs are sure to enjoy.

Mara is the Dwarf Orange Bulborb that appears in Pikmin: Antarctic Survival. Due to being a common encounter in the first area, Mara is likely to be one of the first Awakened residents to join the Diamond Settlement. Mara is not particularly strong, but she is a bit tougher than the other two Dwarf Bulborbs encountered in the Chilly Valley, having more stamina and a slightly better sense of sight and smell due to being a Dwarf Orange Bulborb.

Mara is the fiercest of her friend group with Timmy and Himadri and will usually stand up for her friends when she feels the two of them are being treated unfairly. Unlike her friends, Mara does not have a fear of large creatures, and is the most willing of the three to befriend Bulborbs and even larger creatures such as arachnorbs. Mara often jokingly describes herself as "the mean one" of her friend group, despite not actually doing anything that could really be considered "mean". She has adventurous tastes for foods, enjoying spicy, sour, and bitter foods which many creatures would pass on eating. Mara, as well as Himadri and Timmy, call their collective team "The Gang", and she rarely leaves their side.

Before being taken to the Antarctic, Mara lived with a pack of Orange Bulborbs in the Bulblax Kingdom. Unlike the similar experiences of her friends Timmy and Himadri, Mara's pack actually accepted her in and allowed her to stay even after they discovered that she was a Breadbug mimic. However, despite this initially accepting treatment, they would end up forcing her to leave regardless, as the group began to run low on food supplies and as such had to split off all members of their pack who were not true Bulborbs. The parting was not violent, as the Orange Bulborbs did not attack her, only making it clear that she would need to leave for the good of their group. Mara reluctantly agreed to this, not wanting to start conflict with the Orange Bulborbs, and left in search of a new place to live and hunt. Due to these events, Mara has a much more favorable view of Bulborbs when compared to the other two Dwarf Bulborbs she lives with, although she still does consider Bulborbs as ultimately only loyal to their own kind.

After leaving the Bulblax Kingdom, Mara describes finding a "hole in the sky" and being pulled through it when she came close to investigate, taking her to the Antarctic. From this point, she would go on to meet Timmy and Himadri and form "The Gang", though their team would temporarily be split up by an attack from the Chilly Valley's Arctic Cannon Beetle, and would not be reunited until they were all Awakened some time later.

Once the members of The Gang are reunited, after a few days have passed, Mara and the other two Dwarf Bulborbs unlock a special technique which they can use in search missions, which they refer to as "stack formation." This formation has the three Dwarf Bulborbs climb up onto each other's backs and form a tower of Dwarf Bulborbs, with Timmy at the top, Himadri in the middle, and Mara at the bottom. In this state, the three of them act as one cohesive unit, counting as one single creature for the purpose of exploration team size. The Gang's members are also able to use stack formation in battle, all running up to an enemy and biting at once in a combo attack.

The name "Mara" has a variety of different meanings in different cultures and languages, but the one most likely to have some connection to the character is the meaning "strong", as Mara is the strongest of the three Dwarf Bulborbs in her friend group. "Mara" can also be translated as "master", and Mara will often take a leading role of the group due to her being the strongest among them. Finally, "Mara" is often translated as "bitter", and while Mara is not bitter in the sense of being resentful, she does mention liking the taste of bitter foods, as when she lived with a group of Orange Bulborbs, she was the only one of the group who was able to stomach ultra-bitter berries.

Dwarf Orange Bulborbs share the edginess of Orange Bulborbs, being able to spot and chase Pikmin even when they are a fair distance apart. [In the Toxin Chamber, thirty Dwarf Orange Bulborbs and an Orange Bulborb guard the toxin legend shard. The Orange Bulborb drops the Toxin Legend Shard upon defeat, so defeating all Dwarf Orange Bulborbs is not necessary. Dwarf Orange Bulborbs are faster than some other dwarf bulborbs and can eat up to two Pikmin at a time. Although a group of Dwarf Orange Bulborbs may pose a challenge, they can still be defeated easily through the use of Purple Pikmin.

The Dwarf Orange Bulborb is a returning enemy appearing in Pikmin: Decayed Leaf. The creature retains its original appearance throughout the Pikmin series. Dwarf Orange Bulborbs act like most dwarfs, sniffing the ground and pursuing Pikmin that get too close. However, this species of dwarf is much faster than other dwarves. Along with this, the creature will pursue Pikmin for a longer distance before stopping. If attacked, the creature may screech, awakening any Orange Bulborbs nearby. Like all dwarfs, throwing Pikmin on its back is most effective, doing significant damage.

I can spot this dwarf from a mile away, and it can probably do the same to us. – The ship, upon discovering the Dwarf Orange Bulborb

The Dwarf Orange Bulborb is a returning species of grub-dog that appears in Pikmin: Pitstop. They have the general appearance that an actual juvenile bulborb would have, but they are actually a breadbug mimic. They have an orange rump with black spots, a dark brown snout with nostrils and fangs, and two brown, bi-clawed legs. They also have two eyestalks with black sclerae and yellow pupils.

The Dwarf Orange Bulborb will remain stationary, sniffing the ground for prey. When Pikmin approach the breadbug, it will squeak and pursue its prey, biting down to eat one Pikmin at a time. The Dwarf Orange Bulborb is the fastest of all the dwarves, running at double the speed of a regular dwarf. They are typically found around Orange Bulborbs, and when threatened, will emit a loud shriek that will awaken any nearby Orange Bulborbs. Landing a Pikmin on their back can interrupt them shrieking or eating, and will remove half their health.

The Dwarf Orange Bulborb is weak, and can easily be taken out by throwing two Pikmin on its back. But doing so requires quick action, before the breadbug shrieks and awakens its much more ferocious counterpart.

Notes

  • P3 Data file icon.png Data file #1: Dwarf Orange Bulborbs can see farther and run much faster.

Louie’s notes

Note that the skin of the dwarf has more of a citrus taste to it, so I would recommend searing... Wait... this isn’t my cookbook!

Overlord’s insight

The eyeballs on this breadbug are particularly sharp, so it allows it to see much farther than other colored dwarves. Come to think of it, why do these mimics copy these details? You’d think they’d only have to copy just the general appearance of their bulborb species. Maybe the grub-dogs that care for them will see them as significantly weaker and would exile them from the pack. It’s a cruel ecosystem, that’s for sure.

In Pikmin: Shipwrecked Stargazers, Dwarf Orange Bulborbs are similar to how they were in Pikmin 3. Notably, they gain their red counterpart's returning ability to wake up nearby grub-dogs by yelping when under attack. When this is done, any nearby Orange Bulborb will instantly wake up.

Notes

Olimar's notes

A direct parallel to the Dwarf Red Bulborb. Its existence has been theorized ever since the initial discovery of the Orange Bulborb. One can deduce that this mimicry, which is otherwise somewhat identical to the Dwarf Red Bulborb, came to be in response to the growing population of Orange Bulborbs.

Louie's notes

As with the Orange Bulborb, these minuscule munchers taste like beef. I prefer eating their meat in fajitas, burritos, and empanadas. Do note, however, that the preparation of this meat can be a tricky process.

Ship's comments

It looks like a cat, which I guess makes it less disgusting than most bulborbs. However, with that color, it seems incredibly... unlucky. At the same time, though, all our luck ran out already the second we stepped on this planet.

Notes

The eyes of this creature contain proteins that give them better eyesight overall. However, obviously, you can't just transplant the eyes to a Jiritie, not yet anyway.

A loyal guard dog, these creatures have good enough eyes to be able to see from far distances. Just feed them well and you have a loyal guardian.

Dwarf Orange Bulborbs are a species of the breadbug family that mimics Orange Bulborbs, much like Dwarf Red Bulborbs mimic the form of Red Bulborbs. They are slightly faster than other dwarf bulborbs and can sense Pikmin and leaders from further away, making them more of a threat. They can, however, be defeated just as easily as other dwarf bulborbs, either by swarming it or killing one instantly by throwing a Pikmin directly on top of it. Alternatively, leaders can punch it to death; its low health pool makes it easy to kill with even one leader. Just avoid its mouth. This particular dwarf bulborb variant screeches less than others, and when it does it lets out a quieter squeak, alerting fewer enemies in the vicinity. When a bomb rock detonates somewhere near it, it'll travel near the sound's position to investigate.
