The Fiery Dweevil, like other dweevils, picks up objects such as corpses or treasures and puts them on its body to disguise itself as them. This particular species of dweevil, when agitated by attacks, releases searing flames that set Pikmin on fire.

Attacks Burns Pikmin

Fiery Dweevils appear in Pikmin 251. They are unchanged from how they are in Pikmin 2. However, like all sources of fire, this dweevil's attack kills Pikmin faster.

Notes

Olimar's observations

Unlike the Withering Dweevil I've seen before, these ones seem the same as they were last time. The way they carry whatever they find around is quite annoying, but they're not that threatening. While they aren't deadly to most Pikmin, they are certainly still a real pain in the neck. The way they carry treasure around just to get in the way makes dweevils the most annoying pests of all. It doesn't help that they seem more common than they were last time as well.

Attacks Burns Pikmin

The Napalm Dweevil is a relative of the Fiery Dweevil. It appears in Pikmin 2: New Year as a member of the dweevil family. A cowardly creature, the Napalm Dweevil flees from nearby Pikmin and leaders. When attacked, it will release a cloud of fire from its underside, igniting all Pikmin, except Red Pikmin, caught in the attack. When nearby treasures or corpses, a Napalm Dweevil will, much like other lesser dweevils, pick it up and wear it to disguise itself, ducking down and hiding under it while alone.

Napalm Dweevils much resemble Fiery Dweevils, having a crimson-colored body, although with a slightly more vibrant skin tone. Additionally, black markings are present on the legs.

Being considered more of a distraction and annoyance than an actual threat, Napalm Dweevils are weak and can be easily killed. Throwing Pikmin from directly underneath their body makes quick work of them. However, if one happens to be carrying an object, it must be forced off before any harm will come to the creature. Purple Pikmin are especially useful against lesser dweevils like the Napalm Dweevil because their pound attack will not only stun any in its range but also make the dweevil drop an object it may have been carrying.

Notes

Olimar's notes

This dweevil has a special organ that uses ingested flint and steel to produce a spark to the gasses stored inside, causing fire to be spewed at anything below it.

Ship's notes

Why does Olimar bring carcasses to me when he knows that something will burst into flames and destroy everything? Sigh.

The Fiery Dweevil appears in Pikmin: Dual Worlds. This species of dweevil acts a bit differently from its Pikmin 2 incarnation: it spews a large plume of fire at attackers from holes on its mandibles, twisting from side to side as it does so, almost the same as the Titan Dweevil's Flare Cannon attack.

Attacks Burns Pikmin

The Ignition Dweevil is a species of lesser dweevil appearing in Pikmin: Wide World. It explores its small territory on dry land or in shallow water, by itself or with other creatures including its own kind, periodically idling in place, and flees from approaching danger such as Pikmin or leaders. When near an object that requires the strength of up to ten Pikmin to carry, an Ignition Dweevil will scurry towards it, lift it with its pincers as it scrambles underneath, and then proceed to carry it around on top of its body, holding it firmly using its pincers. They typically are already equipped with an object. However, they do not interact with any bomb rock variant, and in fact avoid them, perhaps aware of their destructive potential. While alone and in possession of an object on land, they fold their legs underneath themselves to sit down, also burying them if the terrain under them is soft to better conceal themselves. When the object an Ignition Dweevil is holding is nudged, it will be startled out of its disguise and begin to flee. Ignition Dweevils can take unattended objects as easily as they can any being carried by Pikmin or dragged by a breadbug, leaving either stranded from the object. Ignition Dweevils also attempt to pick up leaders that are lying down, though leaders they do that to immediately get up. In caves, Ignition Dweevils are not always initially present on the ground, as they may use strands of their silk to rappel down from cave walls when Pikmin or leaders come near. Until they reveal themselves, they can not be seen in the darkness even with the HocoPad's camera function, but if the ceiling is low enough, the camera's flash may startle them and send them plummeting to the ground below. Ignition Dweevils that rappel down are never already holding objects.

Ignition Dweevils are fairly-sized spider-like insects that have a red exoskeleton, a round body, a pair of teal eyes above two green eyes, four slender legs that each end at a fine, dark point, a pair of arms that dangle from their body when in a neutral position and terminate in a pair of pincers, and a pair of mandibles that each have purple bristles on the outer side of their ends.

Although easy to kill, Ignition Dweevils can be problematic to hit because of their small frame and are even more so while carrying an object, which inadvertently shields them from harm. To remove an object from its possession, simply throw a few Pikmin, or a single Purple Pikmin, at it or harm the dweevil sufficiently. Depending on the choice, the dweevil will either lack the strength or endure too much pain to continue holding the object. The only time they attack is in retaliation, during which they stand still as their body glows orange from the heat they generate, producing heat distortion and endangering inapt Pikmin even then, before unleashing an expanding blast of searing fire under their body, leaving flames in the process. The optimal way to defeat one is to stand under it and rapidly throw Pikmin, preferably Red Pikmin because of their fire resistance, at its softer main body. Attacking its legs also works but is far less effective as they are very damage-resistant. The fastest way to take down an Ignition Dweevil, and any other lesser dweevil, regardless of it carrying an object, is with Purple Pikmin; their pound removes objects from its grasp and the impact of the Pikmin landing on it slams the dweevil's body to the ground, instantly killing it. On top of that, Purple Pikmin pounds always stun any Ignition Dweevil caught in their range. Upon death, they spasm shortly before inverting themselves and curling their legs, but if killed by a Purple Pikmin pound, they simply go limp with their legs outstretched instead.

In ultra-spicy difficulty, Ignition Dweevils take half as much time to execute their retaliatory attack. Their attack also has a slightly larger range and consequently leaves behind a larger patch of flames.

Notes

  • PWW Data file icon.png Data file #1 (all difficulties): Ignition Dweevils unleash a searing blast of fire when attacked. Beware the flames!
  • PWW Data file icon.png Data file #2 (ultra-spicy difficulty only): The Ignition Dweevil is quicker to reliate and with more range, so keep your distance!

Olimar's comments

PWW Captain Olimar icon.png The ignition dweevil's vibrant red exoskeleton is the only warning this otherwise docile, cowardly creature gives about its ability to unleash flammable gasses that combust into scorching flames upon contact with oxygen.

Shacho's comments

PWW President icon.png One idea I had to profit from these creatures is to toast marshmallows using the fire they make. The flames are hot, though... nobody would want marshmallow charcoal, right?

Marie's comments

PWW Marie icon.png If not for the flames it produces, and its mischievous nature, ignition dweevils would be great pets.

Louie's comments

PWW Louie icon.png The lean meat of this creature is permeated by the addictingly spicy flavor of its flammable gasses. Because of that, it essentially cooks itself!

Dolphin Lander's comments

PWW Dolphin Lander icon.png I'm unsure if the crew realizes it, but keeping ignition dweevils in my hold is not a very smart idea. I know they want samples to analyze and profit from, but if the bugs shift around too much, small amounts of their gasses are released. YEEOW!

's notes

Just like the Anode Dweevil has connections with Yellow Pikmin, Fiery Dweevils seem to share characteristics with Red Pikmin, like fire resistance and the carrying of objects. Now, if only I could have had one to help me on my last trip with the Doomsday Apparatus...
