Family Mockiwi

The Mockiwi is an aggressive creature that patrols a set path, and chases after Pikmin and leaders it sees. They can also be found sleeping and will begin to patrol once they have been awakened. If a Mockiwi can not reach its prey, it will watch them, screech and snarl, and then walk away.

The standard species in its family, the Mockiwi is a bird-like creature found only on the PC-exclusive Aves Isle in Pikmin Z. It could once fly but has evolved to occupy the predatorial niche of the grub-dog family. Its behavior mirrors that of a bulborb, as do the ways to defeat one. It hunts down a number of prey items such as small animals but is prey to Spiked Mockiwis.

Attacks Eats Pikmin

In Pikmin: Shipwrecked Stargazers, Mockiwis have been adapted into a three-dimensional environment. They exclusively live in small depressions of land, stated by Captain Olimar to be their nesting spots, and constantly patrol in this incredibly small area whilst making clucking noises. When leaders or Pikmin enter the nest, the Mockiwi will perk up and slowly turn around to face the intruders. When they cross its line of sight, it will assert dominance with a resounding caw, and chase them until they leave its dwelling. If it reaches either leaders or Pikmin, it will bite them with its beak.

Notes

Olimar's notes

Having shed its wings through evolution, the mockiwi's morphology is similar to that of those in the order that encompasses grub-dogs, breadbugs, and aerodentia. They're not the smartest creatures but are successful due to their opportunistic tactics. When mating season rolls around, they'll use their beaks to dig a small ditch in the ground in hopes of attracting a female. These nests must be spotless to ensure the potential future chicks don't grow up in filthy conditions, so the males become increasingly territorial as the time comes.

Louie's notes

Breast tastes satisfyingly bland yet juicy. Best served in rice pilaf with chunks of red pepper and onion.

Ship's comments

I don't know. Guineafowl smell bad to me, but at least they have the respect to clean their areas. You can only be so clean when you're a wild animal, however. It's ultimately like polishing a... red slip.

Attacks Eats Pikmin

Mockiwis appear in Pikmin: Spark, exclusively in dens, where they are the most common enemy. Like the Spotty Bulbear, Mockiwis patrol a territory and attack anything that comes near. However, what differentiates them from the Spotty Bulbear is that they only patrol a set path and will only attack when a leader or Pikmin is in direct eyesight. They are quite dull and will casually ignore anything approaching from behind. They are the weakest on the sides of their bodies.

In ultra-spicy mode, there is a chance that a Mockiwi will emerge from its den to try to ambush anything loitering in front of it.

Notes

Abel's medical journal

The light plumage of the creature is extremely comfortable when made as a type of stuffing, great for the comfort of patients.

Lyn's sale review

Want something big and cuddly but not bright enough to hurt you? Feed this creature some birdseed and it will make a great animal companion.

PIX's creature scan

Lives in dens, protecting its chicks from dangers from the outside. Not too bright and tends to die of its own stupidity. Has vestigial plumage and wings.
