Pikmin: Wide World has an expansive soundtrack featuring many original compositions, though several music pieces from previous Pikmin games return in various forms. The complete soundtrack of Pikmin: Wide World is included free of charge with every copy of the game, physical or digital. Songs can be played in-game through the main menu and the HocoPad's music player application, although a batch of music files is also included in the game's internal files to copy to another digital device for listening.

As with previous Pikmin games, many tracks have altered instrumentation depending on what is happening in the environment, locally or generally. These are referred to as "mixes". There are 5 different mixes that every area and cave theme has: enemy nearby, battle, working, carrying valuables, near a spiderwort, and in an interior subarea. The first two are more intense than the location's normal theme and the two after are more upbeat, the second of each pair being more intense than the first, the spiderwort mix has 3 different variants befitting the 3 spiderwort species, and the interior mix sounds hollow and echoey. Areas exclusively have 2 mixes that caves do not, those being for current weather and approaching sunset. The former is somber to match rain or calm to match snow, and the latter is quiet and soothing, but all still display a hint of danger.

In-game music may also have a different rhythm depending on the current active leader, a concept introduced in Pikmin 2. Music heard while Olimar and Marie are active will have a steady rhythm, and the rhythm of music heard while Shacho and Louie are active will be swung. Most tracks are affected by this quirk.

Playback of individual tracks in Pikmin: Wide World's soundtrack is limited only by if they have played in-game. Tracks not yet heard in-game will be blank and unselectable, to prevent listening to them until they are heard in normal gameplay. Track unlocks persist between save files. Music mixes for a particular track can be enabled and disabled as desired. Tracks can be made to play only once or until manually stopped, even when the menu is closed.
