The following guidelines apply to fanon game articles. The following sections should exist, with the names and order provided.

Please know that there are two sets of guidelines on this page: one is for fangame ideas, the other for playable fangames such as ROM hacks. Additionally, all headings under the plot and its subsection on a page should be one level higher than they are presented on this page, such as a level two heading being a level one heading.

No matter the game type, {{navboxes}} should be present at the bottom of the page, under {{clear}} and above any specified categories, and populated by {{games}} and any other related navigation templates.

Fangame ideas

Opening paragraphs

The article starts with {{italic title}}, then {{game}}, or a respective game header, followed by {{infobox game}}. The opening paragraphs, which are not in their own section, should give an introduction to the game, and mention its creator, the platform it is on, its prequel and sequel if any, and how the game is connected to them plot-wise. Additionally, mention what makes the game unique from others. Optionally, include information about release dates, the game's reception, including sales, reviews, and ratings, and demos and remakes. Information about downloadable content, the game's soundtrack, a list of quotes and transcripts, achievements, changes made during development, such as what platforms it may have gone through or what sparked its creation in the first place, what unused content exists for the game, and any prerelease content, regional differences, easter eggs, and glitches should be contained in dedicated subpages of the game's article. All of those items and more may be mentioned directly or linked to using {{see}} in their own respective sections of the article.

Plot

This section should give at least a basic outline of the game's story.

Endings

This section explains all of the game's endings, how they play out, and how to obtain them.

Gameplay

This section should explain the general gameplay. If this is a sequel, this section should focus half on the general gameplay, and half on what changed between the previous games and this one.

Game modes

Quick list of game modes, such as a Challenge Mode or cooperative mode, and an introduction to each. Include links to the game modes' pages.

Content

Pikmin

Types of Pikmin present in this game. For types that have been introduced in previous games, explain how they changed from their previous appearances. For new types, give them a brief introduction. Always link to the actual Pikmin type's page with {{main}}. This section may include friendly and hostile Pikmin.

Characters

A quick list of the main characters, both protagonists and antagonists, in the game.

Ships

A quick list of all the ships appearing in the game, whether they are also a character or not. Onions count as ships, but do not need to be present in this section or even the page overall.

Areas

A quick list of the game's areas with brief descriptions of them and how they are accessed. If they exist, also describe each cave, tower, and dungeon in their respective categories.

Collectibles

A quick list of descriptions of the collectibles, such as ship parts, treasures, fruits, and upgrades, in this game alongside links to them. Details can include their purpose, the theme or themes they follow, how many there are in total, if they change between versions, if only one of them appears in the whole game, and so on. Information regarding all of a game's upgrades are usually listed on a specific subpage of the game's article.

Encyclopedias

A quick list of the game's Piklopedia, Treasure Hoard, Fruit File, and so on, with brief descriptions of each if necessary. Each item should be accompanied by {{see}}. If there is just one encyclopedia, name the section after that specific one rather than "Encyclopedias".

Controls

A table of the game's controls. It should contain descriptions of the control peripherals and a bulleted list of what actions players can perform using them.

Other media

If the game is present on other media, provide or link them here.

Gallery

Include alternate box art, as well as disc images, instruction manuals, promotional material, and so on.

Playable fangames

Opening paragraphs

The opening paragraphs of playable fangames have content identical to that of fangame ideas, but also describe the changes that were made to the game's content, followed by a table of contents, and after that, the game's trailer using EmbedVideo, and lastly a link to the game's soundtrack on YouTube if there is one. Additionally, {{infobox game}} should have its |nocat= parameter set to y, meaning it is true, and the bottom of the article, below {{navboxes}}, should have [[Category:Hacks and fangames]]. If a section has no changed or new content, mention it.

Please avoid linking directly to a hosting site from which a fangame can be downloaded.
