A Queen Candypop Bud with its spots red.
Scientific name | Flora regina
Family | Candypop | ||
Pikmin produced | 9 Red Pikmin, Yellow Pikmin, or Blue Pikmin |
Queen Candypop Buds are candypop buds quite different from the others. They allow the creation of up to nine Pikmin if a single one of any type is thrown in. The flower's spots alternate between red, blue and yellow, presenting an opportunity, with correct timing, to choose between receiving Red Pikmin, Yellow Pikmin, or Blue Pikmin. Only as many more Pikmin as can exist on the field are produced; if there are already one hundred, the Pikmin thrown in simply changes type. The plant withers after it has been used once.
Notes
Olimar's notes
- “This specimen constantly changes colors. When Pikmin are thrown into it, it shoots out seeds that match the flower's coloration the moment the Pikmin landed inside of it. The number of seeds shot out is always greater than the number of Pikmin thrown in. It can be said that this is a completely baffling plant, and many mysteries remain over precisely what sort of relationship it has with the Pikmin. It would appear that the Pikmin gain all of the benefit from the relationship... Perhaps it is simply a different variety of Pikmin to begin with?”
Louie's notes
- “Eating this flower leads to spectacular, breathtaking indigestion.”

The colors of the spots on its petals alternate in the following order: red, yellow, purple, white, blue. Additionally, the colors of its spots alternate at a much faster rate.

Scientific name | Pikminus regina
Family | Pikmin | ||
Pikmin produced | 10 same-colored Pikmin |
In Pikmin V, Queen Candypop Buds function differently, producing ten Pikmin of the kind that is thrown in, which can be any kind. They are also visually distinguished in their updated design, being glossier than other candypop buds and changing color lenticularly, shifting quickly between each of the nine Pikmin types in the game as the viewing angle changes. It is revealed in this game that candypop buds are a stage of Pikmin evolution that occurs immediately before the Onion, but it is only speculated how the candypop factors into this since it doesn't match a particular Pikmin type.
Notes
Brittany's notes
- “The most enigmatic of the Candypop Buds, as all of the other species have a corresponding Onion. It's possible that the Queen is an evolution that does not ever metamorphose, but at the same time, it's oddly similar to how Onions can combine with each other, which Olimar has told me was not the case during his first two visits.”
Olimar's notes
- “Unlike other Candypop Buds, the Queen does not transform. Instead, it produces 10 Pikmin when one is thrown in, giving you 9 Pikmin for free. There's not really a reason not to use it unless you're low on time or have almost 100 Pikmin in the field already.”
Louie's notes
- “This plant is the ingredient equivalent of too many cooks spoiling the broth. It has the properties of all the other Candypop Buds combined – and a strong, spicy, sour, sweet combination that's also tough and poisonous pleases no one instead of everyone.”
