The S.S. Dolphin 2 is Captain Olimar's vessel, being the successor of the first S.S. Dolphin. While Olimar pilots the ship to head back to Hocotate, he hits an asteroid and plummets to an unknown planet. After the crash-landing, the ship requires certain amounts of Sparklium to recover its disabled features, and provide Captain Olimar with updates. The cone of the ship has a detachable pod, named the exploration pod, with its own artificial intelligence, and guides Olimar throughout his adventure. It is able to fly around freely and communicate with Olimar through a loudspeaker, as well as beam him and any Pikmin he's got with him inside. One of the S.S. Dolphin 2's most vital components is its Sparklium Converter, as, without it, the ship can not return to Hocotate.
