The Titan Dweevil is a large member of the dweevil family. Unlike other dweevils, its only natural attack is to lash out with its pincers, which does no damage and is done only to get Pikmin off it; the creature is dangerous only because of the weapons it carries. It is initially burrowed into the ground in such a way that only the treasures it is carrying are visible. When approached, it rapidly rises from the ground and attacks.

The Titan Dweevil has four weapons at its disposal: the Flare Cannon, which projects a jet of fire, the Shock Therapist, which produces electric nodes, the Monster Pump, which sprays a series of water-filled bubbles, and the Comedy Bomb, which emits streams of poison gas. Each of them can be knocked from the beast's use and salvaged as treasure. Pikmin must be thrown at a weapon, either while it is mounted on the dweevil's hide or on its hands. Sufficiently damaging a weapon will cause it to begin smoking, and the effects of its use to be more dangerous and potent; the Flare Cannon has a farther reach, the Shock Therapist's nodes can activate even while moving, the Monster Pump produces water at a faster rate, and the Comedy Bomb emits four jets of poison that may spontaneously and randomly change direction. Damaging a malfunctioning weapon further will detach it from the Titan Dweevil, which will not pick it up again.

Before an attack, the Titan Dweevil chooses which weapon to use from the available ones, with more damaged weapons having a higher chance of being chosen. Additionally, right before using an attack, the creature's armor will temporarily change to the color that symbolizes the hazard used by the chosen weapon.

After all of its weapons have been broken off, it will lose its armor, revealing the pale yellow underneath. It can be freely attacked and does not have any counterattacks at this stage other than shaking off Pikmin. When defeated, the Titan Dweevil melts into a bubbly, bluish goop.

The Supreme Dweevil is the true final boss in Pikmin 2... Again?, found in the Final Challenge, as the return of the Titan Dweevil. It resembles its previous incarnation, but bigger, with three fingers, and its treasures float around it in transparent orbs. When a weapon is used, the icon of the hazard it uses will be displayed for a brief moment. The treasures are smaller while inside the orbs but return to normal size when picked up by the creature. It has stolen back every treasure it had before and has found more, so defeating it is required to recover them all. Alongside the original treasures, it also has the following new ones that are dangerous to Pikmin and leaders alike:

  • Expert Jumpscarer: a tribal mask. The Supreme Dweevil puts it over its face, scaring all Pikmin looking at it except Purple Pikmin.
  • Dirt Cutter: a cookie cutter. It flies on the area, cutting the ground and leaving holes. Only present in the Final Challenge.
  • Coldy Gun: a frozen hair dryer. It blows icy wind at Pikmin, freezing them, and when damaged enough, produces cyan icy wind instead of white wind and forms icicles that fall at the end of using it.
  • Demolition Pipe: a firework mortar. It fires an array of bomb rocks, and when damaged enough it also fires in a spread pattern when damaged enough.
  • Giant Rider: a remote-control toy car. The Supreme Dweevil places the toy car and uses the remote control to direct it toward the Pikmin and leaders to crush them.
  • Potted Beast: a Venus flytrap-like plant in a clay pot. It tries to eat Pikmin. When hurt by eating White Pikmin, the Supreme Dweevil instantly puts it away. Only present in the Final Challenge.
  • Doom Sprayer: a green sprinkler with a white skull icon on it. It spews acid, and when sufficiently damaged, sprays acid over a larger range and also leaves a puddle behind for some seconds. Only present in the Final Challenge.
  • Three-Pointed Waker: a pitchfork. It is used to impale Pikmin.
  • Real Fan: a fan. Makes wind that pushes Pikmin and leaders back.
  • Soul Taker: a black flit gun. It sprays wither, and when damaged enough, sprays wither in a larger radius.
  • Horrifying Prototype Sword: a frying pan. When used, the Supreme Dweevil will attempt melee combat, hitting Pikmin, but can also launch them upward. Once damaged enough, its attacks get faster.
  • Sound Blaster: a megaphone. Produces a blast of sound, knocking Pikmin back. Only present in the Final Challenge.
  • Plastic Gardener: a plastic bag with seeds inside. The Supreme Dweevil throws seeds that bloom into Snap Herbs that eat Pikmin before disappearing.
  • Mr. Nom: a lollipop holder. Fires fog that lingers for a time before disappearing. Only present in the Final Challenge.
  • Tornado Diamond: a handheld fan. Creates sand tornadoes, and when sufficiently damaged leaves quicksand behind.
  • High-Fiver: a sticky hand in a blob on the hand. When used the Supreme Dweevil will try to hit Pikmin and leaders with it, and leaving a sticky slime behind.
  • Horror Movie Element: a fog machine. Release smoke. Only present in the Final Challenge.
  • Mysterious Machine: a plastic stapler. Makes random enemies that fly around the area, and upon receiving enough damage, produces more enemies. If it produces a boss, the Supreme Dweevil will only switch to another weapon upon its defeat. Only present in the Final Challenge.
  • Enchanted Beauty: a crystal orb similar to the Gem of Compensation but with a ring around it. Replicates the effects of the many forms of magic and resembles a releases a magic laser beam. Only present in the Final Challenge.

Unlike the original Titan Dweevil, the Supreme Dweevil isn't limited to a defined territory and can wander throughout its entire sublevel. The floating weapons can be weighted down by Winged Pikmin, and the orb around them will pop if enough damage is dealt or instantly by Claw Pikmin, leaving the treasure able to be damaged until the orb regenerates around it and floats up again. For a time afterward, the orb will be opaque, indicating it can not be damaged again, bouncing any Pikmin touching it off until it returns to its usual transparency. When a treasure is disabled, white fireflies fly around it to indicate that the Supreme Dweevil can no longer use it, though this weapon will be replaced by a magical pink replica of it that the Titan Dweevil will still be able to use. The magic weapon also can not be damaged, and will have the same properties as if it were heavily damaged. However, the original weapon can be delivered to the Research Pod. Once all of its treasures are disabled, the Supreme Dweevil loses its armor, it can not only shake Pikmin off of itself but can grab and eat them too. Furthermore, it may also grab and futilely attempt to use nearby disarmed treasures before dropping them and can stomp the ground to make boulders fall. When defeated, it crumbles to pieces like an arachnorb, leaving behind the Gem of Compensation, and the fireflies surrounding its disabled weapons vanish along with it.

Notes

Olimar's notes

Supreme Dweevil / Dweevil family / Mandarachnia supremus. This is actually the same Titan Dweevil we fought in the past, but it came back, and somehow, it took all the treasures in the ship's hoard without us noticing. Strange. But it had more treasures than I remember, much more. Good! We could defeat this thing, though it won't be so easy with its expanded arsenal.

Louie's notes

Much like the original, but I wish that thing could at least bring me the Meaty Boulder to rework it with, but no.

Hocotate Ship's notes

I wondered why it was called "Nightmare Den" until I saw that thing. Now I understand, a nightmare of how powerful that thing we fought and defeated was.

The Titan Dweevil appears in Pikmin Evolution as a rare boss enemy. It has received a bit of a visual makeover since its last appearance, now taking on a more mutated look. For instance, the legs resemble melting tar, with bits of bone sticking out to appear skeletal. The main head is dotted by pulsating boils that leak a strange but harmless oily substance, leaving wet spots when it inevitably drips onto the ground. These changes also affect the weapons the Titan Dweevil uses, as they now are now organic components rather than mechanical items. The Flare Cannon resembles a pulsating red pancreas, the Monster Pump a giant blue appendix, the Comedy Bomb a deep purple heart, and the Shock Therapist a yellow brain-like structure. However, alongside the returning weapons, two new ones are added to its arsenal: the Sludge Emulsifier and the Frost Duster; the former resembles a sickly green stomach with glowing lime green veins and the latter resembles a gray shriveled-up pair of lungs covered in white mold. Rather than having all six weapons in possession at once, Titan Dweevils only have four random different ones. However, the first time the Titan Dweevil is encountered, it will always have the same four weapons: the Flare Cannon, Monster Pump, Shock Therapist, and Comedy Bomb, just like in Pikmin 2.

Titan Dweevils retain many of their behaviors, but their weapons also have new qualities. The Flare Cannon's flames will leave some lingering fire on the battlefield, the Monster Pump's water blasts will soak into the battlefield and make it slower to traverse, the Comedy Bomb can now damage the captains with its noxious gas, and the Shock Therapist's electric nodes will explode into a cloud of volts when it lands in water or acid. However, the additions of the Sludge Emulsifier and Frost Duster will bring new complications to fighting the Titan Dweevil. The Sludge Emulsifier will be tossed by the dweevil and explode, leaving behind a puddle of corrosive sludge, limiting movement, and when that weapon is half-damaged, the sludge will create bubbles that trap Pikmin inside upon contact. The Snow Duster, on the other hand, will shower a cloud of ice onto the ground, creating a slippery patch and freezing Pikmin solid, with the weapon creating more uneven ice floors when half-damaged. The Titan Dweevil will replace some of its old weapons with its new additions in future battles, mixing up the strategies involved in defeating it. However, sometimes, if the captains manage to slay many Titan Dweevils in a short time span, the next one fought could have a chance to be replaced by a Scrambled Titan Dweevil.

Aside from its new additions, the style of fighting a Titan Dweevil is the same: damage and remove its weapons while avoiding the hazards or countering them with the respective Pikmin type, and after the weapons are removed, target its now-exposed carapace while the dweevil itself becomes defenseless. When defeated, instead of it simply melting into nothingness, the head will remain intact, allowing it to be carried back to base. The weapons a Titan Dweevil uses can also be collected as valuable pieces of refuse.

Notes

Ivy's journal

Looking into the genome of the dweevil family, it seems that most dweevils inherit their elemental abilities based on what compounds they absorbed when they first hatched. Fiery Dweevils are made by absorbing phosphates, Munge Dweevils are made by absorbing sulfur, etc. The Titan Dweevil, on the other hand, may be the result of a mutation-induced case of gigantism caused by absorbing multiple different conflicting compounds, leading to the development of mutated growths. Luckily for it, the Titan Dweevil has learned to use these growths as a method of self-defense rather than a disability, developing several chemical weapons to defend itself from any predator.

Leni's recipe book

Roasted dweevil head is a surprising favorite among our community, and it's super easy to make. Just boil the head in a saltwater brine, lather it in tomato sauce and butter, stuff it with potatoes and rice, then bake for 5 hours to make a great mound of deliciousness.

Remember each weapon, then analyze what you want to use to counter each one. Sometimes, brains complement pure brawn.

The Titan Dweevil is a greater dweevil in Pikmin: Wide World that is located exclusively underground. It spends its time almost completely burrowed in soft terrain on land, alone, hidden from view under its treasures, which form what appears to be a pile of 5-6 large, valuable items. When approached by Pikmin or leaders or its treasures are disturbed by them or anything else, such as a Breadbug, the creature will violently but briefly tremble to scare them off. If they persist, a Titan Dweevil will begin to reveal its form, unfolding and lifting its buried legs to stand them up before using its strength to pull its partially buried body, along with its treasures, from the ground. It will emit a shrill screech afterward, and then proceed to march about, inadvertently skewering anything under its sharp-tipped legs as it steps. It periodically idles in place to look around, vocalize, or stretch, usually before attacking nearby Pikmin and leaders by using fire, electricity, water, or poison. For fire, it turns red and glows warmly, creating a heat distortion effect around itself; for electricity, it turns yellow and electricity surges over it; for water, it turns blue and perspires intensely; for poison, it turns purple and becomes shrouded in the gas. Inapt Pikmin are subject to a hazard even while a Titan Dweevil is preparing an attack that uses it. After charging its attack, a Titan Dweevil releases a massive quantity of that hazard, which spans up to its legs in a roughly hemispherical shape. Fire takes the form of a massive cloud that leaves behind flames, electricity surges through the ground, water attacks splash onto nearby Pikmin and leaders and leave behind a large puddle that is harmless until exposed to electricity and dries from the outside inward, and poison attacks take the form of a massive, lingering cloud that spreads along the ground and disappears with time. If somehow without treasures to begin with, the Titan Dweevil will instead suspend itself from the ceiling with a strand of its silk and jump down when Pikmin or leaders come near, much like some of its smaller kin do. Until it reveals itself, it can only be seen by using the HocoPad's camera flash, very easily at that because of its shiny armor, which will also force it out of hiding.

The Titan Dweevil is a large spider-like insect that has pale, peach-colored skin, an ovoid body supported from above by four long, curved, bulky legs that each end at a fine point, a pair of arms each terminating in a pair of pincers, a pair of large, blank, lime-colored eyes on either side of a symmetrical cluster of smaller, blue eyes, and a pair of mandibles that each have three maroon bristles on the outer sides of their ends. A shiny, metallic exoskeleton covers most of its body except for its eyes and bristles. While it prepares and executes an elemental attack, the Titan Dweevil's armor, but not skin, shifts to the color corresponding to the current hazard, and its eyes also turn a lighter, almost white version of that color. It usually crosses its arms behind its back while it has no treasures or other objects to hold, but can also cross its arms in front of itself or simply have them dangle.

Because of its abilities and intelligence, a Titan Dweevil should not be underestimated. It strategically uses its treasures to shield itself from thrown Pikmin, but will also resort to using other objects such as larger enemy corpses when no treasures are around. It will also toss objects that it can not effectively hide behind at Pikmin and leaders, with smaller objects simply knocking them back or away and medium-sized objects burying or crushing them depending on whether the ground underneath is soft or hard. Although its legs are always exposed, targeting them is much less effective than targeting its main body because of their increased defense and because latched-on Pikmin tend to fall off with every step the creature takes. Pikmin that are thrown onto an object the Titan Dweevil is actively holding will hold on and add weight to it, and with enough Pikmin, the Titan Dweevil will be forced to drop it, harmlessly knocking the involved Pikmin off and to the ground. Quite a number of Pikmin are often required for the Titan Dweevil to drop larger objects, making Purple Pikmin the most effective type for this purpose. When able to, the Titan Dweevil may violently shake a held object to force off Pikmin clinging onto it and send them flying every which way. It typically does so when over half the weight needed for it to drop the object in question is added to it. After the object falls, Pikmin should be made to carry it away as soon and quickly as possible, before the Titan Dweevil can grab it again or prevent them from taking it away. The Titan Dweevil will use its nearest leg to pin down and lightly bury loose objects Pikmin try to carry, highlighting the importance of focusing on the one it was most recently made to drop.

When without any objects to protect itself with, the Titan Dweevil will be almost completely defenseless aside from shaking Pikmin off of itself, swatting at them, and using its devastating elemental attacks. It also shakes Pikmin off as a side effect of preparing an elemental attack. As the Titan Dweevil sustains damage, its silvery armor will gradually flake off, exposing its much more vulnerable skin. By the time it reaches one-third health, most or all of its armor should be absent. However, as its armor flakes off and its health dwindles, its attacks become more frequent and intense: fire attacks have a much farther reach as they spread outwards in waves, also leaving behind a much larger patch of flames; electrical attacks produce arcing sparks that bounce against surfaces until they eventually and rather abruptly dissipate; water attacks splash farther and produce large droplets that travel in an arc through the air and splatter upon colliding with an entity, object, or surface; the poison attack's cloud expands for as long as it remains and tends to cover much ground. Upon defeat, the Titan Dweevil will harmlessly stumble about while flailing its arms, and its skin foams with and seeps a harmless mint-colored fluid, shortly before toppling over and going limp.

In ultra-spicy difficulty, the Titan Dweevil also wields acid, lubricant, and ice, but all of its elemental attacks take slightly longer to execute. The acid and lubricant attacks are much like the water attack, only with their respective hazards. Thus, the acid attack forms a corrosive puddle that inapt Pikmin and unprepared leaders can not stand in, and the lubricant attack leaves behind a large, slippery oil slick. However, acid dries more quickly than water, and the oil does not go away until set ablaze. Both attacks can still splash onto their surroundings, and become more dangerous as the Titan Dweevil is hurt. Ice attacks take the form of a liquid hydrogen mist that flash-freezes every entity, object, surface, and fluid caught in its range, including the lower portion of its source. Frozen entities can break free prematurely by struggling, but the ice covering objects and surfaces eventually thaws unless Rock Pikmin are used to destroy it or fire is used to revert it to water before then. The more dangerous version of the ice attack involves the formation of ice crystals on exposed surfaces, blocking the way until thawed, destroyed, or melted.

Olimar's comments

PWW Captain Olimar icon.png Despite encountering countless familiar creatures during this trip to PNF-404, I'm still awestruck that we've come across another one of these fearsome beasts. The last time we encountered it was at the bottom of one of the deepest caves I've ever explored, and Louie rode atop it the entire time. I would be inclined to believe the rumors I've heard that he'd been controlling it the entire time if it didn't yet retain its overbearingly territorial behaviors (though I still suspect it considering his affinity for insects). What's more, it seems that the titan dweevil no longer must rely on an array of weaponry to fend off predators, instead producing their harmful substances on its own. The exact process this resulted from requires further research.

Shacho's comments

PWW President icon.png Nice try, you big bug, but nobody's as greedy as I am! We– I mean, I will be taking those treasures of yours for myself! At least this time they're not weapons of mass destruction... they really should have been locked away forever rather than sold to random buyers. Oh well!

Marie's comments

PWW Marie icon.png There are a million reasons why the titan dweevil is completely, utterly unfit for being a pet. I shouldn't need to explain this to anyone, especially you, whoever or whatever may be reading this. You know exactly what this thing is like and what it can do with just a flick of its... erm, ankle? Wrist? Whatever. It's a living, breathing source of destruction is my point.

Louie's comments

PWW Louie icon.png During a cozy evening party, there's nothing more I like to do than dig into a platter of this beast's leg meat. That's right! They are best enjoyed raw, so fresh from the source to be twitching, but boiling them and serving them with a generous side of cocktail sauce will do the trick. It'll get messy, so be sure to have some bibs and napkins on standby!

Dolphin Lander's comments

PWW Dolphin Lander icon.png Olimar hasn't had a lot of time to reproduce much biological information about this planet's known native wildlife to my database, and the titan dweevil is one of those specimens. But, my goodness, would there have been a lot for him to have said about it! He's always mesmerized by just how quickly this planet changes. Unfortunately, this is just my first trip, so I've been unable to see firsthand just what he means. Maybe, just maybe, I'll be able to return here so I can experience it, too...
