The Fishy News: Issue 6

Ahoy mateys, just wanted to let you all know, a few days in, that I'm currently taking a little break from editing on the Pikmin Fanon. I know I was active today, but that was because I wanted to take care of things that needed attention. I suppose that if it wasn't obvious already, I do take periodic breaks from this wiki, although that doesn't mean I don't keep an eye on this place. So if I disappear, that's probably what's happening. But fret not, I'm never gone for long. When I come back to editing in a few days, I'll be clearing up several articles I need to look at, including two company articles, location articles pertaining to Pikmin: The Return of the Puffmin, unused content articles, starting with the Stamping Long Legs' and then some other unused content articles, a collection of other location articles, the hazards pages I need to finish up at some point, and lastly, other miscellaneous articles I come across that need cleaned up. I'll even get back to updating and detailing Pikmin: Wide World content because, man, I'm passionate about working on it, even if I do get burnt out on it. Best wishes, and take care! ~ Cheepy-Cheepy icon.pngCheepy-Cheepy

Pikmin: Wide World update #1

This isn't my first update about things to come with Pikmin: Wide World, but this is the first one I recorded officially. I just wanted to say that, when I'm done with the hazard articles, I'm going to be writing lots and lots about the things in the game on the Pikmin Fanon! I have a wide selection of enemies that have notes written for them and are ready to have their articles officially have a section for their appearance in my proudest Pikmin-related project. I like to do things this way, through notes, so I can prepare my notes for everything in my game before I get to writing the articles or sections themselves so I can have all the information I need prepared, organized, and ready to go, which makes writing easier and faster. Get excited, because there will soon be much to read over! I will also be fixing other little minor things with Pikmin: Wide World because I want the game to be absolutely perfect. EDIT: I neglected to mention pictures! Those will be done in due time. I'm just so busy with other stuff in real life and on the Pikmin Fanon that I don't much have the time to do them right now, as much as I'd love to, but do know the last pictures I were working on were of the Fiery Bulblax, Icy Bulblax, and Chemical Bulblax, which were all given brilliant designs in my humble opinion. ~ Cheepy-Cheepy icon.pngCheepy-Cheepy

Lander, Sea Dragon, and Why?

Hey, I just noticed that your Dolphin Lander Doesn't have a page yet. I know you're kinda busy with the whole "Project: Cleanup" thing, but once I'm done with dinner I can take over for you if you so choose and you tell me what categories you intend to fix up! It'd certainly be more cleanly (or at least more organised) if you compiled all it's dialogue! Thanks! User:Cyan piklord 64/sig

Where am I…

Hey Cheepy Yo might have been wondering where I was the reason why because got attached to my Nintendo switch for a while but now I’m back in business ~ Salem

Return of The King

Wraith is back! He's returned! He's even made multiple edits! User:Cyan piklord 64/sig

Haha, I don't think of myself as a king. 80% of the time... ;) But yeah, I'm back! Glad to see that you make regular edits. I hope you have been doing well! Feel free to shoot me a message to talk anytime. I think I need to figure out how to receive e-mail notifications for my talk page. You wouldn't happen to know if I can do that somehow, do you? Anyways I am glad to be back. I look forward to talking with you in the future. User:Peanut64/sig 18:13, 22 June 2021 (UTC)

Hey, it's not my fault! That's all Salem! User:Cyan piklord 64/sig

I've heard about the cleanup effort and I am willing to help out however I can. Just let me know what I can do. I might be a little bit rusty with the whole wiki thing, but I'll do my best. Let me know, User:Peanut64/sig 20:48, 23 June 2021 (UTC)

what pikmin enemy would you like to have as a pet? – I'm GrandGreenie.png Captenluigi2, and you can now play as Mario!

About the cleanup project

Wow, there seems to be a nearly endless amount of things to be done. It's kinda overwhelming. I'll do my best, but for the time being I'm not feeling so well. I should be back in action soon though. User:Peanut64/sig 02:31, 25 June 2021 (UTC)

Hey Cheepy, I think you should Archive this one. You're at 50 Sections now. User:Cyan piklord 64/sig

Do enemies need to be moved to pages with (Game Name Here) at the end? I created an enemy for my game and wanted to be sure. Also, there are so many things to be done with project cleanup, that I'd rather you tell me which specific thing requires immediate attention. I tend to need to focus on small chunks, having ADHD and all. Thanks. User:Peanut64/sig 12:32, 26 June 2021 (UTC)

I'm sorry I haven't started helping with Project: Cleanup. I am very timid about this, and am afraid I will mess something up. You've been maintaining this site for the past half a decade and I can't help but think I am way in over my head. I've looked back at my past actions and feel I had such an ego before, I flaunted my status. I've been trying to be more humble, and a part of that humility is admitting when I have no idea how to help... :/ User:Peanut64/sig 21:21, 28 June 2021 (UTC)

Re: Bomb rock Pikmin

Fair enough. It annoys me, as I have this deep seated belief that Bomb-Rock is the correct way, but canon trumps my inclinations. User:Peanut64/sig 02:29, 29 June 2021 (UTC)

g o n e

Hey, Cheepy, could you please leave a Redirect after you move an image? Whenever you don't, the image link on it's page doesn't work. Thanks! User:Cyan piklord 64/sig

Sorry. I didn't know. User:Cyan piklord 64/sig

It's ok, everybody has bad days every once in a while. User:Cyan piklord 64/sig

Thanks

I appreciate you cleaning up my images and templates. I guess I don't always get it right on my own, so the help is cherished. I'll try in the future to get it right in the first place. User:Peanut64/sig 22:08, 2 July 2021 (UTC)

Hey Cheep! I am trying to make a new logo for our site, so I'd love some feedback on Talk:Main Page. In reality I want to give the whole skin and main page a fresh coat of paint. Let me know on the talk page if you have any suggestions! User:Peanut64/sig 16:56, 9 July 2021 (UTC)

Also, do you have a discord? It's a lot quicker to talk over there, so I was wondering if you have one. I still will use talk pages for major things but discord is good for minor chatting. Let me know! User:Peanut64/sig 19:52, 9 July 2021 (UTC)

Hey Cheepy, can you add me too? Thanks! User:Cyan piklord 64/sig

Fine, lmao. My tag is xXxKingBoo69xXx#4844. ~ Cheepy-Cheepy icon.pngCheepy-Cheepy

I'm Back

Hey I'm planning on coming back, is this the correct site and how you been doing — I am LoganPikmin and meet my friend Spike Pikmin by Scruffy.png Spiky the Spike Pikmin.

Yeah its changed a lot, good to hear from you again, I'm going to try being more active, anything I can help with. — I am LoganPikmin and meet my friend Spike Pikmin by Scruffy.png Spiky the Spike Pikmin.

Ok wow that is a lot, I will try to get started on it. For the files page, do you need drawings done of enemies and stuff? — I am LoganPikmin and meet my friend Spike Pikmin by Scruffy.png Spiky the Spike Pikmin.

Tournament of Drawing Implements

Honestly this drawing contest seems really fun! I have to agree with you though, I think that other people should have their works redrawn too. Maybe we could create a list of everyone who is ok with their works being drawn, and a list of people who want to participate? If we do that, we can assign everyone who is ok with their stuff being redrawn a number and use an RNG to decide who's work is being redrawn, and then they can choose which thing of theirs is drawn? It seems like a good enough system to me. Anyways, I like Salem's idea. If we are doing this though, and this is an official thing, I think it should be on the main page, and that there should be some kind of thing you get for being voted the best submission. I hope this whole idea is worked out and implemented soon! User:Cyan piklord 64/sig

Pikmin V Pikmin merging

Why is it that you want to dissolve Pikmin V/Pikmin types into the Pikmins' individual pages? I like it as a way to see and compare all of the types in the game together. --En Passant 07:38, 4 September 2021 (UTC)

What makes it better? Is there a problem with having the info on both Pikmin V's Pikmin page and the species' pages (which is already the case for Orange and Clawed Pikmin)? --En Passant 04:50, 8 September 2021 (UTC)
Your thoughts don't answer my question, though, which is why the information can't exist in both places as it does now (the Pikmin's article and the Pikmin V subpage). I don't want to add all of that onto the main Pikmin V page to avoid bloating and be consistent with the Enemy/Treasure sections below it. --En Passant 04:18, 18 January 2022 (UTC)
Yeah, Pikmin Fanon has kind of stopped notifying me about new talk page messages, so I didn't know I even had a reply from you, and I wasn't active on the wiki since until someone (possibly you) asked me to start making pages just yesterday. Anyway, that reasoning makes a lot more sense, but I'm still hesitant about it. Paradoxically, the written portions I have on my Pikmin are short enough that they could fit on the page without issue - it's the infoboxes I'm concerned about for bloat. It feels weird to have "summarized" versions on the main page when the small pieces of technical information in the infobox are the only thing that are exclusive to the Pikmin's own article. I know that's what you do for Wide World, but, and it does look nice, I just don't know if it's necessarily better or should be standard. --En Passant 06:48, 18 January 2022 (UTC)
Other users doing it for their games doesn't make it the best way to format, just the one with the least work. The many wiki cleanup attempts exist because the way a lot of people formatted things wasn't very good...
Regarding canon vs. fanon, since this is a fanon wiki, it's implied that everything here is fanon unless stated otherwise, right? We have headers at the top of the pages that state when they're canon content, with links to Pikipedia. The "In fanon games" header is pretty redundant and messes up the table of contents, so that's why I've been changing them. My personal opinion is that we don't need to have the canon game notes for enemies at all since we don't cover the canon games on this wiki, but since it's not actively harmful, I sectioned them off with the label instead of deleting them.
The same applies to the "In other games" header, as if only one game can claim ownership of an idea. I really don't like how you re-arranged the Pellet Poser page to make it seem like the idea was Scruffy's first and I just borrowed it, when, as I already noted on the page when it was made, we came up with it completely independently. There's nothing categorically distinguishing this page from the many, many repeated colors of Pikmin or elemental hazard enemy reskins, so do you plan on making the first sections of those the "default" ones, giving those creators credit for the idea when it's definitely not that original, and placing every one other in an "other games" grouping? I even undid that on my own Clawed Pikmin page. I've never seen a wiki ever claim an enemy, item, etc. as "belonging" to their original game.--En Passant 07:38, 19 January 2022 (UTC)
That's sort of my point about the section thing. What time the information was added to the wiki has no bearing on where or when the idea actually originated, and it's not fair that whoever gets around to writing it on the wiki first gets their game's version specially featured as the source of it, above the table of contents and with their game banner plainly visible at the top, when it isn't especially likely that it's true. In addition to the issue you mentioned about past edits (which is absolutely in the realm of possibility for our userbase, even if you haven't found hard evidence), this formatting would create another one for future ones: It would highly incentivize the wiki version of "first" comments, where someone makes articles for their stuff without adding anything of value to them just so they get the coveted spots at the top of the page.
I think the formatting for both canon and fanon content could be done the same way, having an overview of what the thing is generally like at the top before going into the sections for each of the fanon games. In cases where something performs radically differently between games, it might be appropriate to split the article, like what was done with the Orange and Green and Black Pikmin articles. I think the only reason notes sections stuff up articles is when it gets to the X.Y.Z.W level of hierarchy, of which removing the "In fanon/other games" sentence chops off a whole layer. While it is technically more convenient to have more canon info accessible at the top of the page for canon content... the Pikipedia article is only one click away, and the more info we have here, the more we have to update with new releases and such, which is something we are notoriously bad at. --En Passant 20:07, 19 January 2022 (UTC)
Why do you think those sections are necessary? I'll concede that an "appearances by game" header is standard for recurring content on wikis for other franchises, but since very few fangames are officially released and most get updated substantially over time, Pikmin Fanon content doesn't really recur in that fashion (and that's why I think attempting chronological organization is a bad idea). Each game's section within an article is basically its own article, operated by the game's owner and capable of having its own subsections if need be (like Pikimon's movepools), and they're all simply placed on the same page since most are very similar and small so it prevents page bloat from repeated info. I think, when coupled the idea of keeping specifics of canon enemies on Pikipedia, that the beginning section of articles should be more of an abstract, a landing describing generalities that the different games' versions share, rather than the actual start of content. --En Passant 06:00, 20 January 2022 (UTC)
Erm, I meant the "In fanon games"/"User versions" headers. I don't have any problem with the "Appearances by game" gallery. I'm not seeing where you explained the necessity of these, other than that users sometimes make content not associated with a game. I feel like that's arguably a case against the headers, in situations where both game- and user- versions exist for the same idea: either you'll need two separate sections, which seems pretty unnecessary when the content in the article itself isn't any different, or neither header will be entirely accurate to the content.
I also don't understand what you mean by the family categorizing. If you mean enemy genealogy, I don't see the problem with listing an enemy under any families it has been classified under in various games, as long as each family's page mentions that it is only classified there in whichever specific games. --En Passant 23:38, 20 January 2022 (UTC)
I'll use Pink Wollywog as an example of why I want these changes, then. Even disregarding the first comment thing, the entry at the top (from Redemption) talks about how the Pink Wollywog is a unique species of Wollywog that doesn't attack but instead spawns other, more dangerous Wollywogs. I was left wondering if PikHacker really included that in the mod, and then I scroll down and see that 251's Pink Wollywog is nothing like that. The only common element between the two versions is that they're pink. Either one being at the top is very misleading for the other, and therefore neither should be at the top.
This may sound obvious, but I wrote Pellet Poser the way I think articles should be formatted, before it got changed. It described what the Pellet Posers were (Creeping Chrysanthemum meets Pellet Posy), then had the section for Pikmin V and Pikmin Forever for all game-specific behavior. There was no need for an "In fanon games" header because it's not a canon enemy. I'll also note that the two versions are in separate families, and it really doesn't mean much because they're just the two different ideas we came up with for taxonomy. Both families will only show up with the other enemies in that family in their respective games (just CC for V, but PF doesn't have CC and it does have a few others, so I think it's rather important to have them grouped outside of the Piklopedia page). I seriously don't understand what's confusing about it... whether an enemy behaves differently in two different games is a separate issue from this. I think it's only worth disambiguating/article splitting if the page is getting cluttered with entries; I don't think Pink Wollywog needs to be split. --En Passant 02:55, 21 January 2022 (UTC)

Have You Seen This Man

Hey where have you been I haven’t seen you in a while ~Salem

Cheepy, this is urgent

The alt's been compromised. The only way I'm talking through this is because I selected "Keep me logged in" on the computer I registered my alt on. I need you to find some way to terminate this account.

UPDATE: My cousin is the one who compromised the account. He's planning to use it to grief Pikmin Wide World and Pikmin E.

Hey.

So, I discovered there's a LOT of broken/empty links on Pikmin Wide World's page. I'm gonna work on fixing those, so if you see edits to the page, I'm not doing anything too important. I'm CreatorofPikminE, and I own Pikmin E! CreatorofPikminE (talk)

We Wish You a Merry Pikmas and a Happy

Cheepy, why didn't you just make the Pikmin 2: New Year enemies sections of pre-existing ones? They all seem to have the same behavior. By the time you're done that game alone will have probably increased the enemy pages count by a thirty-second! Also now I think it does the Main Page's article count have some sort of template that counts the content pages? It doesn't seem to have changed since the last time I've been on here. User:Cyan piklord 64/sig

Ok so minor problem

I think you broke the Infobox: Enemy template and now things are no longer in their assigned families. Most obviously, the Breadbug and Grub-dog families have well below a third of their total members. I'd guess about half or even more of our total enemy count has been removed from their families.
