Resistances Acid, adhesive
Weaknesses Electricity, fire

The Sulfuric Dweevil appears in Pikmin: Dual Worlds. This species of dweevil spits acid from a pair of holes on its mandibles. Specifically, it sprays two lines of acid downwards, slowly angling upwards. At the apex of the attack, the acid stream devolves into blobs and droplets, scattering in the air and splashing on the ground. Similarly to its less acidic relative, the Dampening Dweevil, it's weak to electricity, but also to fire due to the chemical makeup of its acid.

Attacks Secretes acid

In Pikmin: Sinister Incinerator, the Sulfuric Dweevil is a green dweevil that has red eyes and defends itself with acid it secretes from its body. They behave like most other dweevils, running away from leaders and Pikmin as well as picking up objects and attempting to mimic them. Green Pikmin are extremely useful when fighting a Sulfuric Dweevil because of their acid resistance.

Attacks Shoots deadly acid gas

The Chlorine Dweevil is a small green dweevil in Pikmin: Shadows of the Future that has purple eyes and uses acidic gas to defend itself from predators. The clouds of acid mist it releases are quite effective in killing Pikmin other than Green Pikmin. However, like most dweevils, the Chlorine Dweevil doesn't actively seek Pikmin out, only fleeing from them and leaders if they get too close, and retaliating when attacked.

Attacks Corrodes Pikmin

The Sulfuric Dweevil is a species of lesser dweevil appearing in Pikmin: Wide World. It explores its small territory on dry land or in shallow water or acid, by itself or with other creatures including its own kind, periodically idling in place, and flees from approaching danger such as Pikmin or leaders. When near an object that requires the strength of up to ten Pikmin to carry, a Sulfuric Dweevil will scurry towards it, lift it with its pincers as it scrambles underneath, and then proceed to carry it around on top of its body, holding it firmly using its pincers. They typically are already equipped with an object. However, they do not interact with any bomb rock variant, and in fact avoid them, perhaps aware of their destructive potential. While alone and in possession of an object, they fold their legs underneath themselves to sit down, also burying them if the terrain under them is soft to better conceal themselves. They will do this regardless of whether they are on land or in shallow acid. When the object a Sulfuric Dweevil is holding is nudged, it will be startled out of its disguise and begin to flee. Sulfuric Dweevils can take unattended objects as easily as they can any being carried by Pikmin or dragged by a breadbug, leaving either stranded from the object. Sulfuric Dweevils also attempt to pick up leaders that are lying down, though leaders they do that to immediately get up. In caves, Sulfuric Dweevils are not always initially present on the ground, as they may use strands of their silk to rappel down from cave walls when Pikmin or leaders come near. Until they reveal themselves, they can not be seen in the darkness even with the HocoPad's camera function, but if the ceiling is low enough, the camera's flash may startle them and send them plummeting to the ground below. Sulfuric Dweevils that rappel down are never already holding objects.

Sulfuric Dweevils are fairly-sized spider-like insects that have a green exoskeleton, a round body, a pair of yellow eyes above two brown eyes, four slender legs that each end at a fine, dark point, a pair of arms that dangle from their body when in a neutral position and terminate in a pair of pincers, and a pair of mandibles that each have magenta bristles on the outer side of their ends.

Although easy to kill, Sulfuric Dweevils can be problematic to hit because of their small frame and are even more so while carrying an object, which inadvertently shields them from harm. To remove an object from its possession, simply throw a few Pikmin, or a single Purple Pikmin, at it or harm the dweevil sufficiently. Depending on the choice, the dweevil will either lack the strength or endure too much pain to continue holding the object. The only time they attack is in retaliation, during which they stand still as their body begins to drip with acid, endangering inapt Pikmin even then, before releasing a deluge of the fluid under their body. The acid splashes around the Sulfuric Dweevil, and on land, also leaves a corrosive puddle of moderate size that eventually and gradually dries from the outside in. The acid dries slightly faster than water. The optimal way to defeat one is to stand under it and rapidly throw Pikmin, preferably Green Pikmin because of their acid resistance, at its softer main body. Attacking its legs also works but is far less effective as they are very damage-resistant. The fastest way to take down a Sulfuric Dweevil, and any other lesser dweevil, regardless of it carrying an object, is with Purple Pikmin; their pound removes objects from its grasp and the impact of the Pikmin landing on it slams the dweevil's body to the ground, instantly killing it. On top of that, Purple Pikmin pounds always stun any Sulfuric Dweevil caught in their range. Upon death, they spasm shortly before inverting themselves and curling their legs, but if killed by a Purple Pikmin pound, they simply go limp with their legs outstretched instead.

In ultra-spicy difficulty, Sulfuric Dweevils take half as much time to execute their retaliatory attack. Their attack also splashes farther and leaves larger puddles, having a slightly greater range overall.

Notes

  • PWW Data file icon.png Data file #1 (all difficulties): Sulfuric Dweevils release acid when agitated. Keep clear of it!
  • PWW Data file icon.png Data file #2 (ultra-spicy difficulty only): A Sulfuric Dweevil's acid splashes some distance away and leaves quite a puddle.

Olimar's comments

PWW Captain Olimar icon.png The sulfuric dweevil can produce a searing acid to defend itself and reduce organic matter to an edible slurry. It doesn't have many predators, and those that try to feed on it are given a nasty surprise, as is common for dweevils. Unfortunately, this survival tactic is ineffective against predators that exhibit a resistance or complete immunity to corrosive substances.

PWW President icon.png I'm not sure what use acid could have, besides burning holes in my spacesuit! Ah, here's one I forgot to patch...

PWW Dolphin Lander icon.png Really not sure how I feel about the crew storing these things' bodies in my hull. During routine self-maintenance, I found several small holes in my hold where the carcasses were resting. Thank goodness they were benign.
