Alex is a gentle Winged Snagret befriended by Captain Olimar during his trek through Volcano Caverns in Pikmin: A New Journey. He is a gentle Winged Snagret that was rejected by others of his kind for being a vegetarian. When he is first seen, Alex is peacefully feeding on Common Glowcaps in the area, and Olimar, startled by the sight of the large creature, attempts to flee with his Pikmin squad. However, one Pikmin stays behind and cautiously approaches Alex from behind, uncertain of when to attack. Alex turns around to greet the Pikmin, entirely aware of its presence behind him, and slowly holds his wing out for the Pikmin to touch. The Pikmin backs away from Alex, hoping to not be grabbed and eaten by him, but eventually makes contact with Alex's wing. The entire event was witnessed by Olimar, who was peeking around the corner along with his entire Pikmin squad to see it. Olimar emerges from behind the corner with his Pikmin and approaches Alex, who welcomes them as friends with a lighthearted chirp. From this point onward, Alex will occasionally assist Olimar in collecting objects and battling certain bosses.
