Attacks Burns Pikmin

The Ashcrab appears in Pikmin: Connection of the Worlds. It is relatively rare, being found only in volcanic regions, and its body is engulfed in flames. The first time it's hit, it will either leave behind a 5-pellet when aboveground, or three doses of nectar when underground. The second hit leaves behind a random dose of spray nectar, a third hit will leave behind two sprays, and a fourth hit will enrage it. If it is hit a fifth time, it will leave behind a 10-pellet when aboveground or three sprays when underground before it retreats under the ground.

Attacks Burns Pikmin
Watch out for that flint beetle's flames! – The ship, upon discovering the Ashcrab

The Ashcrab is a species of Flint beetle in Pikmin: Decayed Leaf. They have the general, pill-shaped body of most flint beetles but with a dark grey, stone-like exterior covered in glowing, orange cracks. The beetle also has two orange antennae and four yellow legs.

Ashcrabs will stay underground until they're approached. Once this happens, they'll pop out of the ground, and begin to skitter around in periodic bursts. Each time the Ashcrab stops moving for a few seconds, it will suddenly ignite itself with flame. When it starts running again, its flames go out. Only Pikmin that are resistant to fire can damage it while it is still. The Ashcrab will only remain above ground for a short amount of time before disappearing back into the earth. When a Pikmin directly lands on its body, it will flip over and release three nectar drops. When it's hit a second and third time, it will drop an ultra-fiery spray. The third time it's hit, it will go underground.

The Ashcrab can only be safely engaged with Red Pikmin, Snapdragon Pikmin, and Statue Pikmin at any time due to their flame resistance. Any other Pikmin used may result in them being lit up. However, a Purple Pikmin's shockwaves can also damage the Ashcrab if the Pikmin lands near it.

In Overlord mode, the Ashcrab will leave a trail of fire wherever it runs.

Notes

  • P3 Data file icon.png Data file #1: Ashcrabs only ignite themselves when they stop moving. Try to hit them while they're skittering.
  • P3 Data file icon.png Data file #2 (Overlord mode): Ashcrabs leave a trail of hot flames wherever they move!

Olimar's notes

The Ashcrab constantly emits an extreme amount of body heat, along with chemical compounds that react with such heat to produce fire. Granted, since they live underground, it really only works when in contact with oxygen. I named this insect the Ashcrab because it feeds off of the ash and soot of plants and leaves that it burns when it touches them. They are particularly destructive due to this, so I am concerned about what impacts such an insect would have on its environment.

Louie's notes

The extremely spicy flavor of this bug makes it a good addition to hot sauce when you blend it in. Best used if you're running low on exotic chili peppers from this planet.

President’s notes

They say the most valuable of riches are protected by the breath of a dragon. Or in this case, this flint beetle is covered in fire! What if I covered my Pokos in fire– Yeah, that's a really stupid idea, I'm sorry.

Overlord’s thoughts

Well it's a step up from farting to defend yourself, I guess. With the amount of animals on this planet that use fire to defend themselves, I'm surprised this didn't come sooner. These types of animals weren't a thing back then... before the event.

Attacks Produces fire and black nectar

Ashcrabs are subterranean creatures in Pikspore that feed mainly on ash, soot, and burnt material. They are normally docile except for when being threatened, in which they will emerge from the ground and leave behind fire and black nectar in an effort to flee. They resemble Iridescent Flint Beetles, but with a black body striped with orange, with orange legs and antennae. The first hit yields a random dose of spray nectar, the second hit yields five doses of random spray, and the third hit causes it to shoot black nectar in all directions around it. The Ashcrab with disappear once enough time has passed or if it is hit three times.
