The Astermite is an asterarch appearing in Pikmin: The Space Odyssey as the mature form of the Asterlarva. It has fully adapted to the sub-zero temperatures of outer space and endured a long metamorphosis to achieve its current form. Despite being about the size of a common bulborb, it walks rather quickly on its four blue legs. Upon seeing Pikmin, it will electrify its tusks before attempting to ram into them to kill as many as possible. To defeat it, approach it from behind and attack its tusks to break them. Doing so causes the Astermite to flee backward from its attackers, its vulnerable eyes bulging out and it no longer being able to defend itself.

- “The asterarch family is a species of space-dwelling insects. Members resort to having very hard shells to protect themselves from the vacuum of space. The reason that their skin is blue but their blood is green is that it is so cold in space that it freezes their blood, so they have to have their blood temperature raised to 240 degrees Fahrenheit, thus changing their color.”
