The Autumnal Bulborb is a large, long-snouted relative of the Bulborb in Pikmin E: Remastered. It is a member of the grub-dog family, and retains most features of normal bulborbs including their colored and white-spotted hide, now orange, from which it gets its name. It also has an elongated, crocodile-like snout, used for easily chomping down Pikmin.

Notes

Olimar's notes

Quite the odd grub-dog, especially with its extremely elongated snout. What could I possibly classify this as? A grubodile? No, no, that sounds stupid. It's best to classify this as a grub-dog, for my own sake.

Louie's cookbook

Prepare for eating as you would a bulborb, there are no differences with this species of grub-dog.

The orange-backed Autumnal Bulborb is in many aspects similar to most other grub-dogs, though its smaller stature and somewhat elongated features set it apart. Unlike most of its nocturnal relatives, the Autumnal Bulborb is only asleep for the first half of the day; afterward, it will awaken and begin to patrol a small area of territory. When approached, this creature will aim its sights at a leader or their Pikmin. Once it has locked on target, it will step back and then make a rapid dash forwards, snapping up Pikmin in its jaws as it approaches. However, if it misses, it will stumble and fall flat on its face, leaving it vulnerable to a counterattack.

Attacks Eats Pikmin

The Autumnal Bulborb is a new enemy appearing in Pikmin: Decayed Leaf. The creature, being a grub-dog, has numerous characteristics shared by most Bulborbs. This includes eyestalks, a spotted hide, and two spindly legs. However, the hide of the Autumnal Bulborb is light orange, and the snout of the creature is a bit more elongated, though as elongated as that of the Trapjaw Bulborb.

The Autumnal Bulborb spends its morning sleeping. If provoked, it will wake up, but it doesn’t tend to give chase. It prefers to stay asleep in the morning. However, once noon hits, the Autumnal Bulborb will wake up, along with all other Autumnal Bulborbs. They will then begin to patrol a set path around their territory. It will usually be in the shape of a square or circle, but it can be more complex shapes. If approached, the grub-dog will give chase more aggressively, wanting to protect its territory. Due to its elongated snout, its range is slightly increased. It can eat up to 5 Pikmin in one bite. If fled from far enough, the creature will give up and turn around. That’s the best time to strike and take down an Autumnal Bulborb. Sneaking up behind one and attacking it while it’s patrolling is also effective.

Notes

  • P3 Data file icon.png Data file #1: Wait for the bell of noon to strike. That is when the Autumnal Bulborb will awaken from its slumber!
  • P3 Data file icon.png Data file #2: Autumnal Bulborbs are extremely territorial beasts! Try to stay far away from them, if possible.

Attacks Eats Pikmin

The Elongated Bulborb appears in Pikmin: Wide World as a grub-dog exclusive to Ancient Metalworks and its caves. No dwarf counterpart of it is encountered, although the creature's diminished size can cause it to be confused for the dwarf counterpart of a larger bulborb. They sleep on land, alone or with another Elongated Bulborb, for the first half of the day, but once midday strikes, they naturally awaken and begin patrolling their small territory for the rest of the day. Underground, however, each Elongated Bulborb will either be awake or asleep, and alternates behaviors every 10-15 minutes. Before noon, touching or harming an Elongated Bulborb will wake it up, though it will also awaken upon hearing a sound loud enough to rouse it from its slumber. Up close, an Elongated Bulborb will pursue nearby Pikmin and leaders to eat them. At a distance, however, it will step back while opening its jaws and then charge forward, with little ability to turn, eating any Pikmin and leaders that end up in its mouth and plowing aside any that do not. Leaders that are in its mouth will be chewed up, and then spat out alongside any Pikmin in its mouth at the time. If its charge misses, the Elongated Bulborb will trip and then skid along the ground until it slows to a stop or hits an obstacle, after which it rises to its feet. If leaders or Pikmin exit its territory, an Elongated Bulborb will resume its normal behaviors for the time of day. If an Elongated Bulborb is already awake by noon, it will remain active.

Elongated Bulborbs resemble most bulborbs, but are distinct because of their elongated facial structure. They are also smaller than most others, being roughly the size of an adult Bulbmin. Elongated Bulborbs have a light-colored face, an orange back with white spots, and brown eyes with white sclerae. They have a pair of white fangs, and each of its four toes ends in a white claw.

Defeating an Elongated Bulborb is usually no difficult task. Although they can not be instantly killed by throwing a Pikmin onto their back, Pikmin can be thrown at their eyes to inflict minor damage, make them flinch, and cause them to release any Pikmin currently in their mouth. Its most dangerous attack is its charge, but it can be dodged, putting the creature at a disadvantage while it is getting up, during which it will be completely defenseless. Upon defeat, an Elongated Bulborb will groan and then fall dead.

In ultra-spicy difficulty, the Elongated Bulborb has better turning ability while charging, and will snap its jaws shut on Pikmin and leaders it catches in its mouth as it runs, allowing it to eat and bite more Pikmin and leaders overall during its signature attack. Additionally, after its charge misses, it may continue snapping its jaws shut if Pikmin happen to be in the way, hoping to catch them in its mouth and eat them.

Notes

  • PWW Data file icon.png Data file #1 (all difficulties): The Elongated Bulborb will sleep until noon, then wake up to start patrolling its territory.
  • PWW Data file icon.png Data file #2 (all difficulties): Elongated Bulborbs that dwell in caves can be awake or asleep, and will alternate behaviors every little while.
  • PWW Data file icon.png Data file #3 (all difficulties): Dodge the Elongated Bulborb's charge to make it stumble and slide along the ground.
  • PWW Data file icon.png Data file #4 (ultra-spicy difficulty only): Many Pikmin can be caught in the Elongated Bulborb's charge, so be sure to get out of the way.

Olimar's comments

PWW Captain Olimar icon.png This creature's smaller stature is caused by hereditary dwarfism. Previously, members of this species were the size of other bulborbs, but have since shrunken. Because of this, they resemble the dwarf counterparts a number of members of their family have. They are much more mobile than any dwarf, however, and also possess a body shape, set of behavioral patterns, and sleep schedule that sets them apart from other bulborbs.

Shacho's comments

PWW President icon.png This grub-dog would make for a great security force once midday rolls around. They'd go after intruders like nobody's business! ...And employees too, I guess, but I wouldn't mind that if those employees slack off too much. Wouldn't want slackers on the payroll.

Marie's comments

PWW Marie icon.png Elongated bulborbs are an excellent companion for owners with a set sleeping schedule. They have a smaller frame, which means they weigh less and more than likely can sleep in the same bed as their owner! Warmth and cuddles.

Louie's comments

PWW Louie icon.png Its meat is perfect for burgers. Cook on an open barbeque, seasoning as necessary. Serve between two buns with cheese and other fixings, and enjoy!

Dolphin Lander's comments

PWW Dolphin Lander icon.png What an interesting grub-dog! Its size and head shape are so much different than others of its kind. I find its elongated snout particularly charming. Its size causes it to resemble a dwarf bulborb, but it is in fact fully grown.
