“ | I wonder how these mushrooms are floating... Olimar, take notes! | ” | – The ship, upon discovering the Driftstool |
---|
The Driftstool is an enemy in Pikmin: Decayed Leaf, and one of the most radical of the sporovids in appearance. It resembles a small, brown, flat disc, similar to a pancake. Two small antennas with black, beady eyes attached are wired on the top of the Driftstool's body. Under the Driftstool's flat body are two extremely small feet which are barely noticeable until the creature flips over upon death.
Driftstools can be found floating in the air idly, or laying on the ground idly. If approached while floating, it will slowly drift down to the ground in a back-and-forth manner. If approached while lying on the ground, the Driftstool will suddenly erupt from the ground and begin to float for a few seconds, before slowly drifting back down to the ground. Whenever the Driftstool erupts from the ground, it will fling off any Pikmin attacking it. If the Driftstool lands on any Pikmin, it will not crush or plant them into the ground, only knock them away.
Defeating a Driftstool is incredibly easy. Throwing any Pikmin at it while floating will kill the creature instantly, and so will throwing any Pikmin on it while it's resting. Only a few hits from Pikmin will kill the Driftstool as well. Since it is weak, the Driftstool does not wield much in terms of seeds, but it may occasionally drop nectar.
In Overlord mode, the Driftstool moves much faster and can appear in different sizes. The bigger the size, the more health the creature will have.
Notes
Olimar's notes
- “The Driftstool has seemingly evolved to lose its legs and main body, instead focusing its growth on its cap. The air buoyancy of the cap allows for the Driftstool to take flight when threatened. However, its legs haven't entirely shrunken away, so the Driftstool can actually walk, though that method of movement is... unreliable.”
Louie's notes
- “Need a good substitution for pancakes? Then this insect was made just for you! You can use the syrup of a compressed pellet to add some sweetness to this vegetarian delight.”
President’s notes
- “Organic frisbee discs? Don't mind if I do! Actually... never mind... these discs kinda stink. They just keep floating back and forth.”
Overlord's thoughts
- “This creature looks just like a pancake. Just like... a pancake... LOUIE, YOU'D BETTER NOT!!!”

Attacks | Eats Pikmin, scatters spores |
The Driftstool is a species of sporovid appearing as a miniboss in various dens in Pikmin: Spark. Taking the form of a flat, yellow, disc-shaped mushroom cap, this creature flies through the air like a saucer, scattering spores to convert Pikmin below it into Puffmin. It periodically lowers to abduct Pikmin and defeated enemies to eat them to heal itself, and while it does so is a prime opportunity to stun it with a bomb rock and swarm it to inflict extreme damage. Alternatively, the creature can be weighed down with Winged Pikmin and then stunned with Purple Pikmin to heavily damage it. Upon death, it drops the Sour Capsule, a container of mustard worth × 200.
