The Dwarf Forest Bulborb is a member of the breadbug family serving as the dwarf counterpart of the Forest Bulborb. It appears in Pikmin 2: New Year as a relative of the Dwarf Orange Bulborb. Dwarf Forest Bulborbs can often be found in groups and in the company of one or more Forest Bulborbs. They idly sniff at the ground where they stand until Pikmin or leaders approach, causing them to perk up with an audible yip and begin following them, attempting to take a bite of them when close enough. However, it will return to its original position should its prey leave its rather short range. Of note is that Dwarf Forest Bulborbs notice Pikmin and leaders from a slightly farther distance away than other dwarf bulborbs do, akin to how Forest Bulborbs awaken when Pikmin and leaders so much as approach them.
Being the dwarf counterpart of the Forest Bulborb, Dwarf Forest Bulborbs strongly resemble them. They have a drab olive skin tone and a yellow backside that features gray-brown spots resembling bullet holes. Their eyes have light gray pupils, although their sclerae color differs from that of Forest Bulborbs in that they are black rather than gray. Overall, they are similar to Dwarf Painted Bulborbs, with which they coincidentally share behaviors, because of their striking physical appearance.
Dwarf Forest Bulborbs, like many dwarf bulborbs, are fragile creatures that can not withstand much punishment before succumbing. Additionally, throwing even a single Pikmin directly onto one's back will kill it instantly. What makes Dwarf Forest Bulborbs dangerous is their numbers and awareness of their surroundings. Even then, taking them out is often a simple task unless a larger grub-dog, such as a Forest Bulborb, is nearby. If this is the case, care should be taken to not wake it up, to avoid Pikmin casualties and wasted time. Killing the nearby dwarves will also simplify the often inevitable battle against the Forest Bulborb by not having to worry about them picking off astray Pikmin.
