The Gleaming-Eye Bulborb is a species of grub-dog appearing in Pikmin: Neo. It is a jet-black bulborb with cyan spots and an indigo underbelly. A strictly nocturnal predator, this grub-dog sleeps during the day, off-screen, away from other creatures, as its hunting methods would be ineffective then. It is encountered in some Challenge Mode stages, however, although each takes place during the daytime. At night, the beast rises from its den and begins prowling around. It isn't as aggressive as the Spotty Bulbear and will become intimidated by and slowly slink away from one it sees, although it can still prove to be even more dangerous. When it spots its prey, it blinks its eyes before shining from them a bright blue light, from which it gets its name, stunning the target and leaving the creature free to eat them with a quick bite. When in danger, it also uses its eyes to stun predators and other potential dangers in an attempt to flee. Due to its stunning abilities, all attacks should be directed at its backside. Additionally, Plasma Pikmin are immune to hypnotism and stunning lights, meaning they are an ideal type to use when fighting this creature.

- “This species of grub-dog hunts nocturnally due to darkness both augmenting its hunting styles and minimizing encounters with its rival, the bulbear. It uses its photoreceptors to absorb small amounts of light and then uses that light to create a sudden blinding flash. It often eats bioluminescent fungi to augment these abilities and make them more potent.”
