Watch out for its powerful pincers! – The ship, upon discovering the Pinching Sheargrub

The Honeygrub is an enemy that appears in Pikmin: Decayed Leaf. It resembles a small, ridged, light orange sheargrub with two black eyes and pincers. The creature also has two wings and a black stinger, unlike most mandiblards. The Honeygrub, as its name implies, is covered in a thick coat of honey.

Honeygrubs can be found flying through the air. They will usually appear from out of view of leaders, and then begin to fly in a set path throughout its area. Once it flies above a group of Pikmin, it will swoop down and drop a large glob of honey onto them. This honey can cause Pikmin to become stuck in it until whistled out. However, Pikmin can also pummel the honey to turn it into nectar. Any Pikmin that attempt to attack the Honeygrub will get stuck on its body until it shakes them off. The Honeygrub does not attack any Pikmin stuck on it.

Honeygrubs can easily be taken out by throwing a single Dart Pikmin straight at them. Alternatively, Rubber Pikmin can also be used, as they are entirely resistant to adhesive substances. Rubber Pikmin that attack the Honeygrub will weigh it down to the ground. Once killed, Honeygrubs lose all the honey stuck to them.

In Overlord mode, Honeygrubs will eat any Pikmin that get stuck on them. This can also include Rubber Pikmin, but they will be weighed down to the ground first before they have a chance to attack.

Notes

  • P3 Data file icon.png Data file #1: The honey of the Honeygrub can easily trap any Pikmin that aren't resistant to its adhesive properties.

Olimar's notes

Honeygrubs, which were once thought to be some form of honeybee mutation, were actually discovered to be a predator of honeybees. These mandiblards will attack bee nests in hives and raid them for their honey. The honey acts as both a food source and a method for capturing and eating small insects that get stuck to the Honeygrub. Honeygrubs have even attempted to attack wasp nests... with worse results.

Louie's notes

This grub is a great source of honey! Let them lead you to the nearest beehive, and dig in!

President’s notes

I've always had a mosquito problem at Hocotate Freight. Maybe if I hang up a few of these grubs, I could easily trap those small pests!

Overlord's thoughts

I should probably deal with this species. I don't want the bees to become endangered yet again. But I don't just want to genocide an entire species for just trying to survive! Maybe I'll relocate them underground...

Attacks Divebombs Pikmin, produces adhesive

The Hunnagrub is an airborne member of the mandiblard family. They can be difficult to defeat due to their sheer speed and because they are coated in adhesive. A trip stone will take a Hunnagrub out in an instant.
