Icy bomb rocks, formally known as ice blasts, are a variant of bomb rock that inflict no damage to anything in their range but can instantly freeze enemies, water, deep mud, and hydro jelly, much like Ice Pikmin can with time and number. However, ice-based enemies will be unaffected, and an icy bomb rock's effect on water and mud is very short-lived. Additionally, frozen enemies will not bear a corpse upon defeat, only nectar or an ultra-spicy spray. Pikmin in an icy bomb rock's blast radius will be frozen solid, and so will ill-equipped leaders. Icy bomb rocks can be crafted with raw material, or found from dirt mounds.

The icy bomb rock is a type of bomb rock in Pikmin: Clouded Skies that instantly freezes anything within range of its explosion. The effect only lasts ten seconds, but completely immobilizes those it affects and renders them helpless. Possible victims of an icy bomb rock are leaders, inapt Pikmin, and smaller enemies such as the Dwarf Red Bulborb. Icy bomb rocks are utilized by Icy Dirigibugs, making it a rather annoying enemy because of the object's cryogenic properties.

Cryogenic bomb rock
Hazards Ice, explosion

A cryogenic bomb rock is a variant of bomb rock appearing in Pikmin: Wide World. They are round, bumpy, predominantly white, icy rocks with narrow cracks running throughout their surface, revealing a glowing frosty cyan-white core within. Cryogenic bomb rocks may be of two sizes: small, the size of bomb rocks in Pikmin 1, and large, the size of bomb rocks in Pikmin 2. Small bomb rocks can be carried by Pikmin while large bomb rocks can be rolled around by exactly two. Leaders can carry one bomb rock at a time no matter its size, but large ones may slow them down slightly purely because of their size and weight. While carrying a cryogenic bomb rock, Pikmin and leaders will become gradually more chilled the longer they continue to hold one, but leaders with the Pocket Radiator, and Pikmin following them, will be unaffected.

When lightly struck, such as from a sufficient tap or a kick, a cryogenic bomb rock will become primed, the cracks on it snapping further apart with a crack; the core within glows progressively brighter over the course of ten seconds and grows slightly until it finally detonates, instantly freezing surfaces, liquids, and obstacles and heavily chilling Pikmin, leaders, and enemies in range until they thaw or warm up. Small cryogenic bomb rocks produce smaller, weaker blasts of less outward force than large ones, but both inflict very little damage to their surroundings and exert minimal force. Pikmin attack with bomb rocks mainly by throwing or shoving them, but can only merely shove large bomb rocks forward; leaders, however, can throw them regardless of their size. Few enemies utilize cryogenic bomb rocks, but how they do so may vary. Many enemies that eat Pikmin can also eat bomb rocks, which will prime when bitten onto and subsequently explode in their stomachs; in the case of cryogenic bomb rocks, this will immediately freeze most enemies for much longer than its blast alone. However, using cryogenic bomb rocks against enemies is not always effective, especially against ice-based enemies. Setting a bomb rock down or leaving it set will not prime it, and subjecting a bomb rock to crushing and stabbing forces will cause it to detonate instantly. Cryogenic bomb rock explosions will not prime any bomb rocks in their range, only temporarily freeze them.

Some cryogenic bomb rocks may be duds, indicated by a dark, black interior, and are therefore incapable of chilling anything in contact with them. They can not be primed, and when exposed to crushing and stabbing forces, simply break apart with a shattering noise. Dud bomb rocks are most effective when handled as if they were rocks, and shatter after a single use. Cryogenic bomb rocks can only be made into duds by exposing them to fire or extreme heat, as exposing them to any type of fluid in any way will cause them to detonate instantly.

In ultra-spicy difficulty, cryogenic bomb rocks detonate after five seconds, and their explosions have a moderately increased size. They also instantly freeze all Pikmin, leaders, and enemies in range rather than heavily chilling them, and the explosion's effects for a longer period. Additionally, enemies are more careful to not consume them and tend to keep away from them if they are aware of any nearby.

  • PWW Data file icon.png Data file #1 (all difficulties): Cryogenic bomb rocks, cold to the touch, aren't very harmful but will freeze or heavily chill everything in their blast.
  • PWW Data file icon.png Data file #2 (ultra-spicy difficulty only): Cryogenic bomb rock explosions will freeze everything in their sizeable range and for some time.
