Family Amphituber

The Large-Mouth Wollyhop, officially known as the Large-Mouth Wollywog, is different from most amphitubers in the sense that, rather than attacking by crushing Pikmin and leaders, it attacks by thrusting its tongue out of its large, gaping mouth. It initially sits in a pond in the center of its arena, attempting to hit its prey with the glassy weakpoint at the end of its tongue. After thrusting its tongue for the third time, it hits the creature's face on its way back, dazing the beast and allowing its tongue to be attacked. After the tongue's weakpoint is destroyed, it is replaced by a spiked ball, the wollyhop attacks at a much faster pace, and its new weak points become its cheeks. Once these are destroyed, the creature will begin to jump wildly across the arena, and after four hops alternating between small and large, it thrusts its tongue out, also revealing the weakpoint on its back. Once its final weakpoint has been destroyed, the Large-Mouth Wollyhop will scream, collapse, and explode.

Attacks Crushes Pikmin, knocks away Pikmin and leaders

The Yellow Wollybot appears in Pikmin: Wide World as a mechanical amphituber. It is found exclusively in Ancient Metalworks and some of its caves. The Translucent Wollybot is its stronger, subterranean counterpart. Like all mechanical enemies in Pikmin: Wide World, the Yellow Wollybot can only be hurt and killed by destroying its glowing, purple, glass weakpoints, which can be done using Rock Pikmin, rocks, bomb rocks, or mine rocks. The latter two are the most effective weapon against a Yellow Wollybot because they are capable of damaging or destroying several weakpoints at once. A Yellow Wollybot has four weakpoints, which, unlike in Pikmin Adventure, are always exposed and vulnerable: one is on the end of its long tongue, two serve as its cheeks, and one more is on its back. Attacking any other part of its body with any other Pikmin type is futile and will cause the creature no harm. Yellow Wollybots can be found sitting idly on dry land or in a pool of water. When leaders or Pikmin approach, a Yellow Wollybot will turn to face them, but it won't attack them until they get very close. When this happens, a Yellow Wollybot will attempt to either jump on leaders and Pikmin to crush them or knock them back a fair distance by thrusting its tongue out at them. Just like Translucent Wollybot and unlike most other amphitubers, the Yellow Wollybot does not float in the air after it jumps. Striking the tongue's weakpoint, regardless of whether it is broken or not, will cause it to slam against the Yellow Wollybot's face and stun it for a few moments. When it comes to, it will resume its normal behavior. If a Yellow Wollybot is led too far away from its original location, it will turn around and return there through a series of short hops.

The Yellow Wollybot highly resembles a yellow toy frog and vaguely resembles the Yellow Wollywog. Its toes are red and have green webbing between them, and its eyes are black. Like the Translucent Wollybot, it is a bit larger than an adult Red Bulbmin. It has a gaping mouth, which contains its long tongue.

As stated above, Rock Pikmin are the only Pikmin type that can be directly used to harm a Yellow Wollybot. However, since Yellow Wollybots can also be found in water, the use of mine rocks may be necessary if they can't be led to dry land. Rocks can be used on dry land or in water, but they will break after hitting the creature a few times. Bomb rocks can also be used if the creature is in water, but be sure not to submerge them in water too deep or they will become duds and act like rocks that break after one use. Unlike the Translucent Wollybot, the Yellow Wollybot has no adverse reaction to its weakpoints being shattered nor will it become temporarily enraged after coming to from being stunned by its own tongue. Unlike in Pikmin Adventure, the Yellow Wollybot's tongue will remain as a shattered weakpoint after being broken and will not become a spiked ball. While the Yellow Wollybot is stunned, its other weakpoints can be targetted and destroyed. When a weakpoint is destroyed, it will shatter and turn black, no longer glowing. A Yellow Wollybot will also become dazed for a few moments when one of its weakpoints is destroyed. The weakpoint on its back is the most difficult to hit, especially whilst the creature is moving, but Rock Pikmin, rocks, bomb rocks, or mine rocks can be thrown over its face to hit it. Upon defeat, a Yellow Wollybot will immediately stop in place and shake violently, hop short distances wildly and erratically in random directions, and explode shortly thereafter. This explosion can kill Pikmin. Because it explodes, a Yellow Wollybot will leave behind HP Sparklium icon.png × 30 and no other spoils.

Notes

Olimar's notes

This creature seems to be an advanced form of yellow wollywog that has undergone the same evolutionary paths as gatling groinks have, which seems to be an extremely common characteristic exhibited by a number of other creatures in the locations they are found. Yellow wollybots have two methods of defending themselves from predators, which are crushing them or knocking them away. Its tongue can expose one to the creature's habit of crushing organisms, making it extremely dangerous to be around. Luckily, yellow wollybots only seem to attack when they are almost close enough to be touched.

Shacho's notes

It's not made of gold, but yellow is close enough to it! They remind me of giant toys... Maybe I could make a quick Poko-grab by bringing a few of these creatures back to Hocotate and selling them. Maybe I could paint some to have some variety!

Marie's notes

Yellow wollybots are super sweet, trusting creatures that totally believe nothing will go after them until they are approached too closely. The trick to taming one is to show it you mean it no harm, and after that, it is sure to grow on you. They are also very quiet creatures in that they barely make noise themselves or by moving around. As an added bonus, their tongue can be used to punch a burglar right out of the house!

Louie's notes

Inedible. Plastic and metal are not meant to be cooked or seasoned or eaten.

Dolphin Lander's notes

The yellow wollybot lives in such close proximity to other robotic creatures and doesn't seem to mind them. How anything on a planet such as PNF-404 can be so friendly is beyond me.
