The Man-at-Legs Alpha is a member of the arachnorb family that appears in Pikmin 2: New Year as a relative of the Man-at-Legs. It remains partially buried in the ground, only its upper legs and body exposed, until Pikmin or leaders come near or harm it, prompting it to rise from the ground. After doing so, it may either scurry in place or about its territory or immediately open fire on its aggressors using a cannon concealed underneath its body. Occasionally it will pause to idle in place or open fire on nearby Pikmin and leaders.

A Man-at-Legs Alpha has a lavender-colored body covered almost entirely by gray metal plating and features exhaust pipes and a valve. It has four legs, three of them long, spindly, and black, and the fourth, a mechanical leg that is the same color as the plating on the creature's main body, and has red coloring on the sides of its joints.

Because the only weakpoint of a Man-at-Legs Alpha, its main body, is suspended just high enough off the ground so other Pikmin types can not reach it unless there are slopes nearby to throw from, Yellow Pikmin are useful against it. The only way to fight it is to use hit-and-run tactics, running up to the creature to assault it until it shakes off its attackers and fleeing behind cover when it extends its cannon.
