The Mapleseed Skitterling is a variety of skitterling appearing in Pikmin: Dual Worlds in both iterations of Flamenco Forest and some of its caves. It lies flat on the ground until prey, such as Pikmin, approaches, at which point it will extend its serrated arms forward and slash at them, usually resulting in them being captured, though at the far edges of its range Pikmin will instead be knocked over and deflowered. Its attacks will also spread a sticky sap-like substance, nearly immobilizing those that step in it, requiring some likely unavailable time and effort to escape. This sap can hold up to five Pikmin at a time and will eventually fade. It also produces sap from the leaf on the tip of its tail. Throwing a Pikmin directly on top of it will instantly defeat it, though on occasion it will put its arms up to protect itself, requiring an additional Pikmin to be thrown to bat its arms away. Mapleseed Skitterlings are shown to be the larvae of the area's boss, the Maplesap Skitterleaf. Maplesap Skitterlings may rarely drop a blob of nectar on death, and are particularly weak to fire, as their sap is rather flammable. If they're in a large group, fire can easily spread between them as they panic.
