The Popperbug is a specialized bug-like creature appearing in Pikmin Eco. Its whole body is covered in a volcano-shaped shell, with an opening at the very top of it. They steadily walk along on four stubby legs, with small mandibles and four tiny eyes. It wanders around in a small territory and doesn't attack unless Pikmin or leaders are close by. Once this happens, it will shudder and its back will erupt, shooting out a number of rocks around itself in multiple directions. The main effect is to knock the Pikmin back, but Pikmin can be crushed if caught directly underneath the rocks, which is fairly rare.

- “This unique creature is highly timid and will shoot out rocks stored inside its bodily cavity at anything that frightens it. The stones are gathered from crystal nodules, which are then stored inside a compacted body cavity. The nodules are launched out of this cavity after pressure is built up inside it, released through a trigger response in the animal's brain to its muscles. But that's a very complicated process we're still looking into.”
