In Pikmin Forever, Red Spectralids act exactly as their Pikmin 3 incarnation does, requiring only a touch to kill and leaving a drop of ultra-spicy spray upon defeat. As such, a Red Spectralids is exceedingly rare. Its small body only requires one Pikmin to carry, and only yields a single seed or a single metal unit.

I think an ultra-spicy spray is in that butterfly! – The ship, upon discovering the Red Spectralid

The Red Spectralid is an enemy that appears in Pikmin: Decayed Leaf. The creature resembles a small butterfly with a fluffy white body, two tiny legs, and two small antennae. Its main feature is its two large, dark red wings that have black spots and are outlined in black.

The Red Spectralid can be found flying around flowers or other plants. It will occasionally stop to rest on a flower petal or edge of elevated land. The creature is extremely agile and will fly away if so much as approached. However, it's extremely weak, and one hit from a Pikmin is more than enough to kill it. When killed, the Red Spectralid has a chance to drop an ultra-spicy spray.

In Overlord mode, the chance for a Red Spectralid to drop its respective spray is decreased significantly, as with all spectralids.

Notes

Olimar's notes

The nectar this flitterbie yields is quite tangy. It's jam-packed with adrenaline, however, such suited for only Pikmin and other small insects to consume. It doesn't affect larger creatures... like myself. But that's what the Blue Spectralid is for.

Louie's notes

A spicy taste is what this spectralid yields. Mash up dozens of them for a carnivorous salsa.

President’s notes

When I use the spray from this guy, my Pikmin go crazy! They become killing machines! I better tell Olimar to find more of these butterflies, we can easily double our work effort!

Overlord's thoughts

I always wondered what flowers the spectralid species feeds off to yield such a variety of sprays. So I followed this particular red one. It's only when I saw it sucking up magma from a lava pocket is when I realized I should probably stop questioning the biology of the animals I was made to protect.

In Pikmin: Shipwrecked Stargazers, the Red Spectralid acts the same as its Pikmin 3 incarnation. As with their white and yellow counterparts, they may become the targets of interest for bulborbs that are awoken by leaders and Pikmin should the Red Spectralid be resting on their eyestalks at the time.

Notes

Olimar's notes

Due to their low reproduction rate, Red Spectralids are amongst the rarest of flitterbies. Due to the flakes of stimulating substances within its wing scales, nectar it drinks tends to become droplets of ultra-spicy nectar due to mixing with said flakes and the spectralid's own saliva. This special nectar is used to aid in the development of their young.

Louie's notes

Spectralid fritters made from the wings of this specimen are usually much more intensely flavored, akin to hot cinnamon. Their larvae taste similar and can be crushed into an illustrious spread for toast and biscuits.
