Scatterstools are sporovids initially found partially buried in the ground in Pikmin: The Dawn of Petals. If Pikmin come close to one, it jumps out of the ground and attempts to flee. It is easily killed, as a direct hit on its cap causes it to burst instantly, leaving the body lying on the ground while several small spores launch out. The spores eventually grow into smaller copies of the creature itself but can be destroyed by hazards or Pikmin. If one escapes into water, it proceeds to swim on its liquid's surface, and since it is not touching a solid surface, a hit from a Pikmin does nothing to it, only knocking it away. In this case, it should be knocked towards the land repeatedly, where it can be crushed.

The spores are helping this fungus multiply? – The ship, upon discovering the Scatterstool

The Scatterstool is an enemy in Pikmin: Decayed Leaf. The creature looks like a Puffstool in color, having an orange-brown cap and yellow-brown body. The large cap of the creature lies on top of its thin body which has three small stubs for legs. The sporovid is extremely small, making it the smallest to be encountered. Along with this, they look like regular mushrooms when dug into the ground, making them a master of disguise.

The Scatterstool can be found dug into the ground, mimicking a mushroom. If approached by a leader or Pikmin, it will immediately pop out of the ground, and begin to run around frantically. The creature can also run on water, skittering across the liquid. If they leave the Scatterstool's territory, it will return back to its original position and continue to rest in the ground. Pikmin that attack the creature's orange-brown body will not do any damage, and landing a Pikmin on its head on water soft ground will merely bump it and the Pikmin away from the collision. Landing a Pikmin on it over hard ground, however, will kill it, and upon death, the Scatterstool will release a few spores. Once these spores land, they will turn into miniature Scatterstools. The original Scatterstool can produce up to twenty of these mimics upon death. One hit from a Pikmin can easily kill the mimics, as well as any element or hazard touching them as well, like fire.

Scatterstools are very easy to defeat, as any Pikmin type can defeat them if thrown on the head. Once defeated, sending a small group of Pikmin to take out the smaller mimics will work, as will chasing the Scatterstool to hazards.

In Overlord mode, the Scatterstool is much faster and can summon up to fifty clones. Along with this, they will release a few different spores along with their normal mimic spores. These spores will turn Pikmin into Puffmin if touched.

Olimar's notes

The Scatterstool utilizes an extremely important cell known as a stem cell when killed. These small cells will begin to produce and multiply, allowing for numerous more of their kin to be produced. These smaller mimics will eventually grow into new Scatterstools. These fungi usually spend their day rooted underground to obtain minerals and nutrients for sustenance.

Louie's notes

These small mushrooms add a nice amount of flavor if thrown into a broth of your choice. You'll just need a lot of them... about two hundred.

President’s notes

If only my employees could be duplicated when I hit them on the head... a businessman can dream...

Overlord’s thoughts

The ancient race once used stem cells to help further advance their medical research, using these small fungi for them. I wonder where they would be now if their extinction did not happen? I guess I'll never know.
