Spotcaps are a type of fungus that can be of varying sizes and usually found in tight groups, typically near Kingcaps, blocking passageways, although they are sometimes isolated and out of the way. In Pikmin 4, they can also be found on patches of sticky mold as its source, with their destruction being the means of removing the mold. Pikmin that are issued to attack a Spotcap pummel it until it shrivels up and disappears, but Pikmin that are thrown on top of one will crush the fungus, destroying it.
In Pikmin Bloom, Spotcaps, as well as Kingcaps, are the focus of mushroom challenges. In addition to having several different colors of caps, both types of fungus have variants engulfed in fire, water, crystal, and electricity.

Spotcaps appear in Pikmin V both as standalone or grouped mushrooms with Kingcaps and as a source of sticky mold with Toxcaps.

- “All Spotcaps fit into a category of mushroom called puffballs, which spread their spores passively through bursting or drying of the fruiting cap. Spotcaps are a particular kind that have evolved to seek out denser, drier soils within their habitats, a specification which as it was, strongly correlates with patches of ground that are traversed often. In simpler terms, they intentionally grow in everyone's way because it makes others more likely to burst the caps and carry their spores.”

- “Mushrooms that are but a simple nuisance. They sometimes grow out of larger molds that slow you down, and destroying them will cause the mold to shrivel. A direct hit to a Spotcap's topside will instantly flatten it.”

Spotcaps appear in Pikmin: Infection in Progress alongside Kingcaps. They grow infrequently at Polluted Creek, Noxious Expanse, Toxic Barrens, and Withering Terrace, but are incredibly common at Fungal Grotto. Due to the plague spreading across the Distant Planet, mushrooms have spread immensely, especially underground. Destroying a Spotcap makes it shrivel and disappear.

- “Clusters of this bulbous mushroom are a frequent sight in the more congested walkways of this planet. While this fungus is much smaller than most organisms of PNF-404, the fact that they're usually in tightly-packed groups means they can block passage through certain areas if left unchecked. They're most easily able to thrive in close proximity to others of their kind.”
