This cunning construction cavalry aims to dismantle us with their devious deeds of destruction. Rally the Pikmin so we can take down these apprehensible architectural apparatuses! – The ship, upon discovering the Toolie Task Force

The Toolie Task Force are a congregation of enemies that serve as a boss in Pikmin: Decayed Leaf. Each enemy represents a tool used for building or architecture, but all of them have black eyes and colorful shoes. They can seemingly float in the air and are always found in groups of twelve, floating around. Approaching them will cause them to go into a circle formation around the arena, initiating the boss fight.

Toolies will float around the arena until they begin to bounce up and down. Once this occurs, two random Toolies will enter the arena circle and begin to fight. Even if a Toolie is subdued and attacked, the other Toolie will not stop attacking unless the attacked Toolie recovers or is killed, in which case they will retreat to their formation. Each Toolie has its own method of attacking depending on the tool it's based on:

  • Screwy Sam: resembles a screw. When he enters the arena, he will float above any Pikmin before drilling downwards suddenly, killing any Pikmin caught in the attack. When he pops out of the ground, he leaves a hole that will form into a fire geyser or water geyser. These geysers can be destroyed, causing them to disappear. When Sam drills into the ground, he will be stuck for a short time, making it a good opportunity to attack. In the rare chance that Screwy Sam is paired with Screwdriver Sandra, she will drill Sam into the ground and spin him around at intense speeds, sending dust and dirt flying everywhere and choking Pikmin. In Overlord mode, Screwy Sam will leave permanent water and fire geysers, with a small chance for the fire geyser to emit blue flames.
  • Nail Nancy: resembles a nail or thumbtack of sorts. When she enters the arena, she will begin to rotate and flip herself around from flat side to pointy side. Depending on which side she chooses, it can lead to different attacks. If Nancy chooses the flat side, she will simply slam herself into the ground, crushing Pikmin. If she picks the pointy side, she will begin to swerve around the arena quickly, similar to a top. This will send Pikmin flying all over the place. After she does this attack, however, she will become dizzy for a short time, leaving an opening for attack. If paired with Hammer Harold, Nancy will float beneath him, and he will whack her, sending her flying to the nearest Pikmin group and slamming her point-side down into the group, crushing any Pikmin she catches. This will cause her to get stuck for a while, however. In Overlord mode, Nail Nancy will leave a trail of fire wherever she is spinning around, which dissipates after ten seconds.
  • Hacksaw Harkhov: resembles a large hacksaw. When he enters the arena, he will locate a position, where he will set himself down onto the ground. He will proceed to then saw off a piece of the arena slowly, and once he finishes the job, the sawed-off ground will slowly sink, being replaced by water, lava, acid, or oil. Various types of Wogpoles will appear inside the pool, depending on the liquid. During his saw attack, he is vulnerable to attacks, but he is usually defended by the other Toolies. Stopping him from sawing halfway will still leave the cut marks, which Harkhov will return to if he re-enters the arena. In Overlord mode, Hacksaw Harkhov will saw much faster than normal.
  • Screwdriver Sandra: resembles a screwdriver. When she enters the arena, she will locate the nearest group of Pikmin, before charging at them and slamming them into the ground. She will then proceed to screw the ground around her at top speeds by spinning herself around, which causes the Pikmin to be buried and withered back into leaf forms. Even after being plucked, the Pikmin will be slower and weaker for thirty seconds. When she performs this attack, Sandra will become dizzy for a short time, which allows for an opening to attack. In Overlord mode, Screwdriver Sandra will kill any Pikmin she screws into the ground, instead of just burying them.
  • Nut Nimbo: resembles a steel nut. When he enters the arena, he will float around aimlessly for a while. Suddenly, he will expand in size, becoming around the size of a Puffy Blowhog. Nimbo will then float above the group, creating an outline indicating where his metal part will land. He will then violently slam into the ground, crushing any Pikmin who are caught by the Toolie. It is possible to avoid this by huddling inside the light space inside of the shadow as Nimbo lands. After he lands, he will suddenly flip over, causing himself to be vulnerable for a short time. He can only be damaged by direct throws on his backside, as swarming doesn't work. If paired with Wrench Wubba, he will screw Nimbo out of the ground when he lands, making him invulnerable to damage focus must be placed on Wubba instead. In Overlord mode, Nut Nimbo will release a large cloud of poisonous gas around himself, but not in, when he lands on the ground, meaning trying to run outside of his range when he lands is a bad idea.
  • Drill Damian: resembles an electric drill. When he enters the arena, he will get straight to work by heading towards the nearest wall, if there are any, or ground. He will then proceed to drill a large hole into the wall, before exiting the hole and moving on to create another. This hole will then proceed to spew out a constant flow of mud, which will choke any Pikmin caught by the droplets. The hole will not stop spewing mud until at least two minutes have passed, making Damian extremely dangerous if he isn't stopped quickly. If Pikmin are thrown at him as he's drilling, he will be knocked down to the ground, making him vulnerable to attack. In Overlord mode, Drill Damian will create much larger holes when he drills, which will spew out a pink, adhesive substance that traps any Pikmin caught in the glue. This essentially makes parts of the arena inaccessible.
  • Plier Peter: resembles a pair of pliers. When he enters the arena, he will lower himself down to ground level to attack. Peter will aim himself at Pikmin before charging at them, repeatedly closing and opening his metal plier in a biting-like action. He can grab up to five Pikmin with this attack, before eating them. Plier Peter will charge in a straight line, even when he doesn't grab any Pikmin. This will cause him to slam into a wall and become stunned for a short time, making him vulnerable to attack. In Overlord mode, Plier Peter can grab up to twenty Pikmin instead of ten. He will proceed to stop in the large group of Pikmin, before spinning himself around violently and throwing ten Pikmin into his mouth and flinging the other ten away. This violent action will scatter the group of Pikmin he stops himself in.
  • Wrench Wumbo: resembles a large wrench. When he enters the arena, he will lower himself down to a certain point in the ground, before summoning a large, metallic nut on the ground. He will proceed to then screw this nut before it begins to create sparks of electricity. The nut will create a large, electrical forcefield that can only be taken out by damaging the nut with Yellow Pikmin. He can be stopped midway through the construction of the nut by throwing Pikmin at him to knock him down, leaving him vulnerable to attack. In Overlord mode, Wrench Wumbo will create nuts much faster, and when two or more are activated at once, they will create electrical arcs between themselves.
  • Sickle Saul: resembles a sickle. When he enters the arena, he will lower himself to the ground to position his attacks. He will slowly approach the Pikmin, before performing a large, violent slash at the group. This will fling away Pikmin, having a decent chance of killing them with the attack. Due to the severity of the attack, it has a long buildup time, which allows for an opening for attack to stop Saul from slashing at the Pikmin. In Overlord mode, Sickle Saul has a large range in his slash attack. Even deadlier, his slash attack has a guaranteed chance to kill any Pikmin caught in its range.
  • Buzzsaw Barry: resembles a buzzsaw. When he enters the arena, he will immediately slam himself into the ground, burying himself for his attack. Barry will then begin to move across the ground in a straight line, slicing and killing any Pikmin caught in his path. When he comes into contact with a wall, he will deflect off of the wall, and travel in another direction. This action will be repeated ten times before he eventually falls over after the tenth slam. This leaves an opening for attack, but it makes him the most dangerous Toolie in the boss fight. In Overlord mode, Buzzsaw Barry will create a trail of gloom wherever he travels. The gloom will dissipate after ten seconds. Buzzsaw Barry is also covered in gloom as well, giving him an instant kill and a larger range to any Pikmin he touches.
  • Hammer Harold: resembles a large hammer. When he enters the arena, he will position himself in front of any Pikmin groups to perform his attack. He will lean back greatly, before slamming himself into the ground, crushing and killing any Pikmin caught in the slam. This will create a small crater that will uproot up to five Male Sheargrubs, Female Sheargrubs, Feargrubs, Coastal Sheargrubs, or Shearants. However, he can be attacked due to the height he positions himself, making him vulnerable to attacks. In Overlord mode, Hammer Harold will create a large explosion from his slam. This slam will cause any Pikmin nearby to go into a panic due to the loud noise made. He can also summon Pinching Sheargrubs, Shadow Sheargrubs, Shearwoods, Twisted Sheargrubs, Vicious V-Bugs, or rarely, a single, large Shearplant.
  • Tapemeasure Tammy: resembles a large tape measure. When she enters the arena, she will remain specifically above the ground to avoid attacks. Once she floats above Pikmin, she will suddenly release her yellow tape measure down into the ground, which will crush any Pikmin caught by it. However, this measure can be climbed up, as she will remain stuck for twenty seconds. When the Pikmin climb up to the top, they will attack Tammy, sending her plummeting down to the ground, dealing massive damage. In Overlord mode, Tapemeasure Tammy will release a large influx of bubbles when she falls to the ground, which can trap Pikmin.

In Overlord mode, up to four Toolies may enter the arena at once, along with their attack changes, increased health, and increased speed.

Olimar's notes

Again, no clue how these things function. They seem to be large, architectural tools similar to the ones I have back on Hocotate. Funnily enough, they have shoes and eyes, though they can float in the air without the use of any floatation methods or devices. At this point, with everything I've seen, I'm not surprised anymore. These tools really give other beings like the Egocentric Snitchbug a run for its money.

Louie's notes

Inedible. Cannot consume tools...

President’s notes

I have a new set of handy helpers to construct all of my ships and buildings now for my cargo company. What? You guys want better wages?! EW!! YOU'RE FIRED!!

Overlord’s thoughts

I may have zapped these tools to have them come to life. Don't get mad at me... I was a bit bored at the time. They are definitely more of a nuisance than anything. So I wasn't too sad when Captain Olimar killed them off. I decided to look the other way just this once...
