The Tropical Stringfly is a species of whiskerpillar appearing in Pikmin: Neo. They have vividly colored bodies with green and pink wings, purple heads, and magenta eyes. As the name suggests, they live in tropical and humid climates, like swamps, where they and their larvae live alongside each other peacefully. Despite their relationship with their larvae, this species of whiskerpillar is possibly the cruelest of them all. Using its proboscis, it engulfs prey in acidic silk that melts the victim's body, leaving liquified remains for the stringfly to suck up. While hunting, it releases a blinding power to disorient prey and predators alike, and these two abilities make it extremely dangerous to Pikmin. It is best to use Bone Pikmin as they are the sole Pikmin that are immune to acid, but even the whiplike proboscis poses a threat.

Notes

Olimar's notes

This colorful insect is a member of the whiskerpillar family. Rather than feeding on fruit juices like the other adult members of its family, this one feeds on bodily fluids. Due to lacking teeth, it developed a specialized silk made from its own stomach acids, which it uses to melt the skin off prey and more easily suck the juices from them.

Carefully clean the wings of any toxic matter, then sprinkle a light coating of sugar to make delectable wafers.
