The Universal Collider is the last boss of Pikmin E. It is a giant machine made to purge the entire planet of its life using the spheres, each dedicated to a specific hazard, attached to its frame, but progress on it halted when Pikmin were discovered. Louie was one of those who helped develop the old project, and once he found it he was able to complete it.

Louie controls the Universal Collider from within it and is thus able to use every hazard encountered during the adventure. To combat Louie and his machine, twenty of each Pikmin species are provided. Louie is never seen during the battle as he is inside the machine. After the Universal Collider is destroyed, Louie is assumed to die and the machine itself becomes the Mechanical Remains.

Notes

Olimar's notes

It was sad, having to fight Louie. He was a trusted friend of mine, and I really have no idea why he chose to do this.

Eli's notes

Welp, Louie's dead. Not a big loss.

Olimar's notes

This was... a sad fight, to say the least. Louie, while yes, he was assigned to me, was a very trusted friend of mine. It's sad to see him go like this, to be honest. But I did what I had to do.

The Universal Collider is an species of enormous biper in Pikmin: Decayed Leaf. The boss serves as the first clue to Louie's whereabouts after he fled to PNF-404. The ship that Louie crashed onto the planet with can be found directly beside the cave the Universal Collider was built within. The arena itself is a large, metallic laboratory filled with numerous contraptions and supercomputers that keep the Collider functioning. Cylindrical containers store every elemental hazard encountered; water, crystals, poison, electricity, fire, lava, oil, bubbles, mud, spores, ice, and gloom can be found lined up next to the Collider. The Universal Collider itself is a large, metallic sphere that is heated up to an orange hue. Numerous round rings can be found wobbling around the sphere, loosely resembling an atom. The sphere rests, floating above a large, obsidian pillar. The metal plating beneath the obsidian pillar can open up, which allows for numerous claws, weapons, and cannons to be brought out by the Universal Collider.

Encounter

Upon entering the sublevel, Louie is found sitting down in front of the Universal Collider. The small pod attached from the Hocotate spaceship will hover above the squad and in front of Louie.

P2 Research Pod icon.png Louie! Are you alright? Wait a minute... you're not going to hijack another creature... are you...?

P2 Research Pod icon.png Louie...? Say something!

P2 Louie icon.png ...Shh... The galaxy man.. he's watching. He's mad at me, his food was very yummy...

Louie stands up and runs behind the Universal Collider.

P2 Research Pod icon.png What!? Louie! Stop this nonsense at once! You're in a lot of trouble...!

The Hocotate pod attempts to get closer to Louie.

P2 Louie icon.png LEAVE ME ALONE!!

He smashes a red button, and the Collider suddenly heats up and shines a bright yellow. The large machine suddenly moves numerous panels around the obsidian pillar aside as eight robotic claws emerge from the holes in the floor and loom over the squad, initiating the battle.

Fight

The Universal Collider has dozens of attacks at its disposal, most of them revolving around the numerous elements and counter to every Pikmin type. Aside from its elemental attacks, the Collider will use its long claws to grab Pikmin and crush them in its grasp. It will also attempt to jab its claws into the ground to kill Pikmin with blunt force, although some types like Rock Pikmin can survive the attack. The claws can turn into non-elemental weapons to take out Pikmin as well. If turned into a buzzsaw, the saw will slash itself around the arena, cutting up Pikmin and killing them. It can also turn into a steel hammer, in which it will aim and smash itself into the nearest Pikmin, killing up to 25 in one execution. The claws can even become large drills, drilling into the ground and removing them from the claws. The drill will then move down the arena, killing any Pikmin in its path, before smashing into the opposite wall and being destroyed. Its final non-elemental attack, and its main weakness, is dropping down a large, red, glowing bomb rock into the middle of the arena. It has a 10-second detonation time, eventually exploding and creating a massive pit of fire in the middle of the arena. However, if 50 Pikmin are sent to pick up the bomb, they will throw it at the Collider, the explosion stunning it. This provides precious time to attack the Collider.

Aside from this, there are many elemental attacks it will use against the Pikmin. In a water-based attack, a claw will convert into a cannon and release a fountain of water in the middle of the arena, choking non-Blue Pikmin with their water droplets. In a fire-based attack, the claw will become a flamethrower, spewing a ring of fire around the arena and trapping any leaders or Pikmin caught in the middle. In an electric-based attack, the claw will become a cannon, releasing large, thunderous bolts of lightning around the arena that can disintegrate non-Yellow Pikmin. In a poison-based attack, the claw will drop four small, purple bombs randomly around the arena, which will explode and release noxious gas that chokes non-White Pikmin. In an ice-based attack, the claw will become a fan, blowing a large gust of cold air at the nearest group of Pikmin and freezing any non-Ice Pikmin. In a lava-based attack, the claw will turn into a cannon and pump out numerous chunks of molten lava. The lava will fall onto the ground and burn non-Red Pikmin before hardening into stone and dissipating. In a crystal-based attack, the claw will dispense numerous large crystal cubes. These cubes will slowly move around the arena unless broken by Rock Pikmin. In a bubble-based attack, the claw will become a bubble wand, and Louie will blow up to fifty large bubbles that can trap Pikmin and leaders. In a gloom-based attack, a large missile will be dispensed by Louie, and a large reticle will appear on the ground. The missile will land, and a large gust of deadly gloom will emit from it. Numerous missiles, up to five, can be launched by Louie. In a mud-based attack, the claw will become a large tube and spill mud around the arena in a spiral formation, which can choke any Pikmin type. In an oil-based attack, the claws will grab a large, bubbling pot. They will dump a large pool of oil all over the arena, causing Pikmin to slip and slide everywhere. Only Oil Pikmin will not slip. In a spore-based attack, the claws will emit small puffs of spores at the Pikmin, transforming any exposed into Puffmin for a short time.

The hardest and most deadliest phase of the Universe Collider is the boss phase. The Collider will summon numerous bosses, some either being weaker or stronger than their original counterparts. Every boss summoned will have a red, glowing triangle on their head. If defeated, the corpse will be thrown by the Pikmin at the Collider to damage it. In the final boss phase, the Collider will summon two bosses at once to fight. The list of bosses is as follows:

Defeat

After doing enough damage to the Universal Collider, all of the containers beside it will explode, and all of its claws will fall apart. The Collider's main sphere, along with its rings, will stop glowing and fall to the ground. Louie is left in the rubble, as he gets back up to his feet.

P2 Louie icon.png ...Oh no... The galaxy man heard us...

Louie will then float into the air, and suddenly disappear in a flash of light. The Hocotate pod hovers above the ruined rubble.

P2 Research Pod icon.png Where did he go!? Olimar... I think my suspicions have been confirmed... There is something supernatural working against us. Could this be the work of the Plasm Wraith? Whatever it is, we must continue our hunt in finding Louie, and get him back from this fiend!

Olimar, the pod, and the Pikmin all go to the escape fan and leave the cave. The Universal Collider cannot be collected and never recovers. However, it does appear in the final cave, the Overlord's Showdown.
