Vegetation
Vegetation

Vegetation refers to plant life and fungi, such as that covering PNF-404. Most vegetation exists to add visual interest and to create a sense of the biome the area is in, gently swaying when brushed against, but some vegetation can be used to the benefit of leaders and Pikmin or act as obstacles. Disturbing some mundane vegetation may release enemies hiding within, and other plants and fungi can be used to hide from enemies.

In fanon media, some vegetation can pose a threat to the lives of Pikmin and sometimes even leaders.

Vegetation in Pikmin 2... Again? are typically harmless and merely act as decoration, but some can be dangerous or have various uses. Only Green Pikmin are able to resist dangerous plants and attacks based upon them, and use plants in ways other Pikmin can't.

Tentacles of the Ground are vines that emerge from the ground or trees. They reach towards Pikmin, which they try to grab and pull into the terrain, counting as a death. Green Pikmin are the only Pikmin Tentacles of the Ground do not target, and in fact deliberately avoid touching them, meaning Green Pikmin can be used to shield other types in a squad from them.

Snap Herb are a stationary plant that snaps shut when a Pikmin enters it to trap it within. After several seconds, the plant digests the trapped Pikmin as indicated by the soul that ascends from it, and opens up again. Green Pikmin can destroy them.

Thorn Stalk are beanstalk-like plants with thorns, and depending on their origin, have different behaviors. They can grow from seeds deployed by some enemies, and shortly after being buried, thrust out from the ground, impaling and killing any Pikmin above them at the time. However, if the Pikmin happens to be a Green Pikmin, the seed will fail to sprout. Thorn Stalks already growing on the ground must be attacked by Green Pikmin, as they pose a danger to other Pikmin otherwise.

Proseeders are seed-like with a sprout coming out of it alongside two leaves. The circular leaf of the sprout acts as a platform, and when a Green Pikmin steps on one of its leaves, it will spin in the air like a propeller, gaining some altitude before landing again. Once all Pikmin and leaders step off, it'll return to its original position.
