The Wolpin (8本足の犬, lit.: eight-legged canine) is the first boss in Pikmin: A Son's Quest. Found in the Zen Garden, this vicious predator will attempt to devour any prey that crosses its path. The Wolpin is a large, wolf-like creature with eight legs, two wolf eyes with six insect eyes under them, and a stinger at the end of its thick, brown, armored tail. Its fur is a dark grey color.

It has three attacks it uses against Pikmin and leaders, which involve eating them, striking them with its tail, and crushing them. The Wolpin may snap its jaws at Pikmin to eat up to three at a time, and those Pikmin cannot be saved once they are in its maw. It may also try to thrust its barbed tail at its prey, which impales Pikmin and poisons leaders it strikes. Upon reaching half-health, the Wolpin may leap high into the air, linger there a while, and then come pouncing down upon them, crushing any it lands on.

To defeat the Wolpin, rapidly throw Red Pikmin at its furry body, as the tail has an impenetrable exoskeleton. Use the Dodge Whistle to dodge out of the way whenever it tries to eat or strike Pikmin with its tail, as it can skewer Pikmin and poison Sagittarius. It will sometimes jump to a higher ledge and hide for a while when its health goes below half. It will then proceed to jump down and pounce on its prey. Again, use the Dodge Whistle to roll out of the way when its shadow is looming over Pikmin or Sagittarius.

Notes

Sagittarius' notes

Although this beast is very quick and deadly, it's actually very awkward when it comes to hunting Pikmin, suggesting that its diet consists of other, much larger, creatures.
