Family Grub-dog (assumed)

The Yellow Bulborb is a member of the grub-dog family seen in various prerelease footage of Pikmin 2. It strongly resembles the Red Bulborb except for its yellow rump and its uniquely black spots, and its dwarf equivalent is the Dwarf Yellow Bulborb. It apparently became the much more visually-distinct Hairy Bulborb, judging by its internal name.

Notes

Olimar's notes

This creature is known to live in dry, arid areas. It enjoys being in the middle of a sandstorm, and its coloration allows it to have partial camouflage in one.

Louie's notes

For a crab seafood sensation, tenderize the meat and spread black pepper and breadcrumbs onto the surface to flavor. Add steak sauce to give yourself that homey feeling you crave.

Notes

Olimar's notes

A grub-dog similar to the red bulborb, the yellow bulborb's back is a bright yellow, most likely due to environmental changes. It too is nocturnal and feeds mainly on small insects that burrow out of the ground.

Louie's notes

Carefully take out any rocks lodged on its toes, nose, and mouth. Then baste with pikpik carrots and stuff an apple in its mouth. Set to three hundred and fifty degrees Fahrenheit and set for thirty minutes. Enjoy!

President's notes

This beast can be used for sniffing out iridescent glint beetles that hold very expensive treasures.

Libra's notes

This beast's skin is perfect for a lovely yellow shirt.

Violet's notes

This beast is very dirty most of the time, unlike my clean Louie.

Sagittarius's notes

Today I stared at this creature and it reminded me of Bulbie. It was hard for me to kill it for that reason.

The Yellow Bulborb is a grub-dog in Pikmin: Sinister Incinerator that behaves identically to Red Bulborbs. It is speculated that Yellow Bulborbs and Red Bulborbs may be one and the same, with the color changes merely depending on the region. Like Red Bulborbs, Yellow Bulborbs are mimicked by breadbugs as well.

The Yellow Bulborb is a restless grub-dog in Pikmin: Wide World that is exclusive to Balmy Highlands and its caves. Its smaller counterpart is the Dwarf Yellow Bulborb, and its mechanical counterpart is the Yellow Bulbot. Yellow Bulborbs sleep in a variety of positions, either alone or in groups, sometimes in the company of Dwarf Yellow Bulborbs. Notably, Yellow Bulborbs periodically wake up to shift their sleeping position. They may also be woken up if they are touched, harmed, or hear a noise loud enough to rouse them from their slumber. Upon being woken up, a Yellow Bulborb will pursue any Pikmin or leaders it sees in its territory. Any leaders it bites down on will be chewed up, and then spat out alongside any Pikmin in its mouth at the time. If they flee far enough away, it will give up the chase and proceed to find a spot near its original resting position to resume its slumber.

Yellow Bulborbs are the size and shape of most other bulborbs. They have dark skin, a yellow backside with black spots, and lavender-colored irises with white sclerae. Their fangs are white, and so are their claws.

Unless it can be snuck up on, fighting a Yellow Bulborb can be tricky because it wakes up so often. Should the opportunity arise, Pikmin should be charged at its backside for a quick and easy kill. Alternatively, Pikmin can also be rapidly thrown onto the creature's rear. If a head-on conflict is bound to occur, the optimal course of action would be to throw Pikmin at the creature's eyes to inflict minor damage, make the creature flinch, and cause it to release any Pikmin currently in its mouth. Upon defeat, a Yellow Bulborb will groan and fall dead.

In ultra-spicy difficulty, the Yellow Bulborb will wake up when so much as approached. Additionally, it can release the mounting frustration caused by constant discomfort while sleeping by screaming, which throws nearby Pikmin into a panic and can awaken or attract the attention of nearby enemies.

Notes

  • PWW Data file icon.png Data file #1 (all difficulties): A Yellow Bulborb will almost constantly reposition itself while trying to find a comfortable sleeping position.
  • PWW Data file icon.png Data file #2 (ultra-spicy difficulty only): The sleeping troubles a Yellow Bulborb has endured make it prone to aggressive outbursts. Cover your ears!

Olimar's comments

PWW Captain Olimar icon.png This species of grub-dog frequently awakens to change its sleeping position. It is thought that yellow bulborbs suffer from chronic insomnia, preventing them from getting sufficient rest, although anxiety could be the true reason they can never sleep comfortably.

Shacho's comments

PWW President icon.png My wife, Dorris, tosses and turns more than these creatures do, and they even have her attitude! I hope she doesn't snoop through my notes when I get back home...

Marie's comments

PWW Marie icon.png Yellow bulborbs can't seem to get a good rest, even on the softest of beds. They seem to sleep just a bit better in some positions than others, which they'll eventually figure out themselves.

Louie's comments

PWW Louie icon.png Bulborb stomach makes for a great dish when it comes to this beast. Extract the stomach, stuff it with the creature's other meat and some vegetables, and cook in an oven until done.

Dolphin Lander's comments

PWW Dolphin Lander icon.png Why is it that yellow bulborbs have such a difficult time sleeping? Its relatives don't have the same issue. Maybe it has bad dreams often?

The Yellow Bulborb has a general bulborb appearance, but has tan skin, green eyes that resemble that of the Orange Bulborb, and its backside is yellow with black spots. The Yellow Bulborb isn't an active fighter unless it is encountered while it relocates. While it is faking death, it will be inactive until a group of Pikmin attempts to lift it, and five seconds after it is interacted with, it will wake up, knocking all Pikmin carrying it to the ground. Every time a quarter of its health is removed, it will fake death again and recover health while it is in this condition. Once the Yellow Bulborb gets back to full health it will walk back to its initial resting spot.

Notes

Olimar's notes

This grub-dog subspecies has a tan face and a gold-hued rump with black spots. While hunting, this beast feigns death and waits for some unlucky scavenger to come by. If nothing comes to it for a long time, it will grow impatient and relocate. Unlike most grub-dogs, this subspecies is actually diurnal, sleeping at night and hunting in the day.

Louie's notes

Take out the innards and eyestalks, save the tear ducts and grill or fry the abdomen, once cooked to preference, squeeze the tear ducts above the now crispy body for a zesty taste sensation no one will want to miss.
