Attacks Hypnotizes, eats, and drowns Pikmin, sprays ink

The Befuddling Sprakken is a larger squirdler in Pikmin: Elemental Speciation that often rests partially above water due to its size. It appears similar to a very large Sputtlefish in body shape and coloration. It has two large tentacles with three leaflike grippers on the ends of each one, and a large flowerlike gill on the backside of its body that rests underwater and allows the beast to stay upright and breathe. It has a large, translucent, bulbous body, and can change colors at will. Its attacks include grabbing Pikmin and eating them, sliding its tentacles across the ground and pushing Pikmin under the water, shooting blobs of ink that confuse Pikmin and restrict the vision of captains, and changing its color rapidly to hypnotize Pikmin and make them stand still. When fully submerged and it sprays ink, it is ejected as a large cloud rather than blots. Pikmin that are hypnotized underwater swim slowly toward the Sprakken, which will then eat those closest to it. It can also charge across the pool while spinning its gills like a fan, stopping for a bit afterward to eat any Pikmin it may have captured. Its gills are its weak point while fully submerged, whereas it can be hit anywhere on its body when exposed to air.

This creature's scientific name is derived from coercive and virgultum, the latin word for shrub or thicket.

Notes

Olimar's notes

You would think this larger species would have trouble supporting its large mass with photosynthesis, and you would be partially correct. It needs to hunt prey to eat, but it also retains specialized zooxanthellae. These specialized zooxanthellae have the ability to flash in rainbow colors and make patterns that enrapture creatures, including Pikmin, and make them much easier prey for this creature.

Louie's notes

With the nutrition of a veggie and the taste of exotic seafood, even those on a diet can partake in this frilly feast. With the right presentation, your guests will be completely entranced, literally!

Shacho's notes

If we manage to get a culture of these zooxanthellae, we could use them to make solar-powered televisions for cheap, and sell them for a massive profit.
