Attacks Eats Pikmin

The Easter Chrysanthemum appears in Pikmin 2: New Year. It is a chrysanthemum and a relative of the Creeping Chrysanthemum. Initially disguised as a mere Margaret, it reveals its true form when Pikmin or leaders come close. It will try to eat Pikmin and bite leaders in its range, and when left alone, will return to its initial location and reassume its disguise.

Easter Chrysanthemums much resemble Creeping Chrysanthemums but have a yellowed, pastel-colored body.

Avoiding Pikmin casualties is notoriously difficult when faced with Easter Chrysanthemums. The optimal course of action would be to get behind it, and throw Pikmin onto it or swarm it with Pikmin. When enough Pikmin are attacking it at once, an Easter Chrysanthemum will be too focused on shaking them off to eat them, making fighting it easier.

Is that a walking Easter egg? – The ship, upon discovering the Easter Chrysanthemum

The Easter Chrysanthemum is a species of chrysanthemum and Withered Remnant DLC enemy in Pikmin: Decayed Leaf. Their disguised form resembles a Shoot, which uproots from the top of the creature. However, the best way to discern it from the real plant is two small, yellow stripes at the bottom of the stem. The true form of the Easter Chrysanthemum is a large, egg-shaped, purple body with yellow markings. Two flat feet with claws support the bottom of the creature, and two eyes with white sclerae and blue pupils are found on the front of the creature. Its mouth is a large slit across its stomach which resembles a mouth with fanged teeth, although the teeth are just a part of its body.

The Easter Chrysanthemum will remain hidden in its origin point, not moving. If approached, it will suddenly uproot from the ground, and begin to waddle towards any Pikmin it can see. The creature will then launch its mouth forward and snag a large group of Pikmin to eat them. If attacked, the creature will begin to spin slowly, before spinning very quickly for a second to shake off Pikmin. Its main ability comes from when it perishes. Upon defeat, the Easter Chrysanthemum will crack into two halves and open up, releasing five smaller versions of itself, around the size of a Dwarf Red Bulborb. These smaller Easter Chrysanthemums can shake off Pikmin and eat them like its parent, but both the amount of Pikmin they can eat and shake off are reduced. These smaller creatures are not documented as a separate species in the Piklopedia. When these smaller Chrysanthemums are defeated, they will melt away, similar to a Bulborb Larva.

Easter Chrysanthemums can be dangerous if their children overwhelm the leaders. Swarming the beast is recommended when it fails its bite attack, as it's the most common strategy amongst all the chrysanthemum species. Once the beast perishes, move away from the chrysanthemum before the children appear. Either swarm them all at once to take them down quickly, which may result in casualties, or throw Pikmin at them directly, which can do a lot of damage, especially if it's a heavy Pikmin like Purple Pikmin.

In Overlord mode, the Easter Chrysanthemum will release a large blob of adhesive on the ground when it cracks open, similar to egg yolk. This can trap Pikmin and make them easier to consume for the children chrysanthemums.

Notes

  • P3 Data file icon.png Data file #1: Watch out, the Easter Chrysanthemum will release their spawn when killed.
  • P3 Data file icon.png Data file #2 (Overlord mode): The yolk of the Easter Chrysanthemum is particularly sticky. Sticky enough to trap Pikmin!

Olimar's notes

Mimicking a young Shoot, the Easter Chrysanthemum will consume smaller insects for its young. The young in particular are stored inside the large mouth cavity of the mother, as it serves as both a home and easy access to food for the youths' development. I have only encountered female Easter Chrysanthemums, but sightings of males depict a similar build to the female variant, but they lack a mouth. They instead absorb nutrients from the soil for their development. I hope we can eventually locate one of these species, but the task is easier said than done.

Louie's notes

The babies are unsalvageable. However, the yolk this creature produces can be used to make an egg. Best fried on a pan over easy, add salt, and particularly cinnamon instead of pepper. The egg itself strangely has a sweet taste, so it surprisingly fits the dish.

Overlord’s thoughts

Is that an Easter egg? No, I think it's just a normal chrysanthemum. They really will just mimic themselves anything, huh? Considering the Shoot that they are mimicking will soon grow into a large tree, do you think this species will become a large tree and drop Easter eggs?
