The Gelalix is a species of goolix appearing in Pikmin Evolution. It is a pale white amorphous organism made of a silicon-like substance, with a single golden nucleus within it. The Gelalix is a common reoccurring boss, appearing in a variety of damp cavernous areas, but prefers sewers and waterways. The Gelalix, like its older relative, the Goolix, attempts to drown Pikmin with its body, however, this particular cell puddle's gelatinous body can drown all Pikmin types. To fight it, Pikmin must attack the body of the Gelalix to access its golden nucleus. Since the body has the same viscosity as gelatin, Pikmin will only drown if the Gelalix actively smothers them in its body. When it loses a large amount of health, the Gelalix will become more hostile and gain new abilities. Primarily, it will form a crystalline shell over its body, rendering it immune to any direct attacks and allowing it to mold into one of three different shapes, that being a sphere, cube, and pyramid. Some Gelalixes can only morph into one shape, though some encountered later on can change into all three shapes, and all have different counterplay. When formed into a ball, it will attempt to roll into Pikmin to crush them, often charging up to dash directly into them. However, if it hits a hard surface during this attack, its shell will shatter, reverting it to its normal form. As a cube, it will try to jump to the location of the captain, similar to a Wollywog, crushing any Pikmin caught underneath. If it hits an explosive, such as a bomb rock, its shell will shatter. Finally, as a pyramid, the Gelalix will spin around upside-down like a top, slicing any Pikmin in its way, killing them. This attack is most effective on even terrain, so luring it to rougher terrain will cause it to tip over, shattering its shell. These varied battle tactics make the Gelalix a very dynamic and dangerous enemy to face, but the rewards are worth it as Gelalixes always have a piece of refuse lodged from their gold nucleus, which can be collected after their death.

Notes

Ivy's journal

Cell puddles are some of the simplest creatures on the planet. All they do is replicate the qualities of one fluid, and the complexity of the creature's combat styles comes down to the complexity of the fluid that makes it up. As such, the complex polymers that form the isotope of silicon making up the Gelalix's body in particular make it equally as unpredictable. I hypothesize the reasoning behind this species' ability to harden into different shapes is due to how the temperature reacts to the gel making up the creature, as they could cause the creature's bonds to form in different ways. Alas, due to how notoriously hard keeping a fresh specimen intact is, that theory may be almost impossible to prove.

Leni's recipe book

The gel by itself is flavorless and both nuclei have an inedible and sour flavor. However, the gel, when boiled, can act as a good binding agent for jellies, caramels, and other bouncy sweets.

No matter the shape or size of this creature, the best way to defeat it is to give it a bumpy ride.
