The Hazel Breadbug is a relative of the Breadbug appearing in Pikmin 2: New Year as a member of the breadbug family. No direct larger counterpart of the Hazel Breadbug is encountered, the Giant Breadbug being the closest match. Upon entering its territory, a Hazel Breadbug will emerge from its nest and begin wandering portions of the surrounding location that are accessible to it. It pays no mind to nearby Pikmin or leaders and will push past them if they are in its way. Upon coming across an object, such as a treasure or a corpse, that is light enough, a Hazel Breadbug will drag it to its nest. Any Pikmin holding an object that is dragged into a Hazel Breadbug's nest will be killed instantly.
Hazel Breadbugs have a light-colored face, blue eyes, and tan blubber.
Because it can not be swarmed, there are only two ways to kill a Hazel Breadbug: one involves throwing Pikmin directly on top of it, and the other involves causing its head to slam against the underside of the research pod. The former strategy is slow and tedious but does not require an object, and the latter is effective but requires an object to be sucked into the research pod as well as a final hit to finish off the critically injured Hazel Breadbug.
