In Pikmin V, Slate Candypop Buds are gray Candypop Buds that turn up to ten Pikmin into Rock Pikmin and won't revert Rock Pikmin into leaves. It is revealed that Candypop Buds are a stage of Pikmin evolution that occurs immediately before the Onion.
Notes
Brittany's notes
- “This type of Candypop Bud stumps me more than the others, because how do they transform flesh into rock? Technically, it's not actually rock, but an incredibly hard organic molecule (hence its ability to burn), but it's still a fairly unique substance not found in sufficient quantities in other Pikmin. Does the Candypop Bud itself provide the material? If so, where does it get it from? Do Onions do something similar to transform the variety of lifeforms sucked into them into the same Pikmin type all the time?”
Olimar's notes
- “This flower transforms any type of Pikmin thrown into it into Rock Pikmin. There are many hazards that require Rock Pikmin, so if you're low or away from home they can save you some decent time. Rock Pikmin don't do well by themselves, though, so changing them back may be recommended.”
Louie's notes
- “Have you ever tried eating rocks? Let me tell you, it's not pleasant. The creatures on PNF-404 seem to do it fine, but we Hocotations are better than that. Just not at eating this species.”
