The Scorchcake is a shellcake that has an underside swelling with flames. It lies in wait for prey, occasionally sticking its eyestalks out. When Pikmin or leaders draw near, it will rotate onto its side, and, after a short delay, fall flat in the same direction, attempting to crush or burn prey. If the creature lands on its fiery side, it releases a burst of flames around itself. Regardless of its position, it will always die belly-up. Despite its appearance, the Scorchcake's body is soft enough to be damaged normally.

Darkred is the Scorchcake that appears in Pikmin: Antarctic Survival. Darkred is one of the game's three shellcakes, which are all native to the Chilly Valley and uniquely only appear in the area once the Diamond Settlement's level reaches at least 2, being unable to be encountered before then.
Darkred has the ability to use fire at will, which can be useful to create heat in the Diamond Settlement. This also means that he can learn to create bricks from fired clay. However, like the other shellcakes, he is limited in his usefulness because of his inability to carry objects, lacking limbs other than his eyestalks.
Like the other Shellcakes, Darkred has a sense of superiority, viewing himself as better than other creatures, and considering Shellcakes in general to be above others. Darkred in particular is the most smug of the three, considering himself "hot stuff" due to his fire abilities and showing little respect for other creatures if they are not incredibly strong or able to use fire themselves. Even the other two Shellcakes, Frosty and Zapper, find Darkred to be a show-off, and are constantly trying to one-up him and seem more impressive than he is. Darkred used to live with the other Shellcakes, but at some point, the three of them got into an argument over which one of the three was the best, which led to the three of them splitting up and going their separate ways. For this reason, the three Shellcakes are all encountered and Awakened independently of each other in the Chilly Valley.
Darkred's name, as is the case for the other two shellcakes, is a direct reference to the name of a powerful Pikmin character from one of the game creator's much earlier games which was created all the way back in around 2009. Darkred specifically draws his name from a powerful Red Pikmin of the same name, who harnessed powerful fire abilities and was the commander of all Red Pikmin in that game's world.

The Scorchcake is a member of the shellcake family appearing in Pikmin: Gold Rush. A type of mollusk with a cylindrical rocky shell and eyestalks, it will remain stationary until approached by a Pikmin, then push itself onto its side before falling over and crushing anything under it. Its shell is akin to stone and takes heavily reduced damage from any Pikmin type except Rock Pikmin, while its soft underside produces a continuous burst of fire, which only Red Pikmin can endure. It's optimal to alternate using Rock and Red Pikmin to defeat it in one flip.
One Scorchcake appears on the 3rd sublevel of the Coal Tunnels, holding the key to the exit.
