The Flighty Dimuneep is a small, birdlike creature with a long beak and silvery feathered wings that cover its body when on the ground, but reveal its pinkish body when it takes off. Its body is shaped very similar to a kiwi bird, except it has large wings that are able to fully cover its featherless body, and a small 3-feathered tail. When idle, it wanders a small patch of ground, stopping occasionally to ruffle its feathers, peck at the ground and catch a tiny shelled beetle, or just to look around, turning its head in a very sporadic and twitchy manner. It cannot be hurt when its feathers are covering its body, but when it prepares to flap its wings to take off or when it is flying, it can be hit in its exposed body. This creature's scientific name comes from volare, Latin for "fly" and beccus, Latin for beak.

Notes

Olimar's notes

This avian’s distinctive silvery metallic plumage comes from its diet of small creatures of the Pilli genus. The metal held in the shells of these beetles is absorbed by the dimuneep, and used to build its feathers. These feathers have the same highly defensive properties as the beetles it eats, making it hard for predators to strike. But, due to lacking enough intake of these minerals for a full set of feathers, it only produces feathers on its wings, which it uses to protect its vulnerable body when not in flight.

Louie's notes

I would tell you how delectable this creature is, but my boss has not-so-subtly hinted to me that I shouldn't even think about eating one of these. Such a shame.

Shacho's notes

Most of the wildlife on this planet doesn't care whether it's a Pikmin or Hocotatian that they shove in their mouth, but these shiny little birds seem to only have an appetite for Pikmin. Quite relaxing to be able to walk up to one of these and just admire that sparkling, silvery feathers... I think I'd like to take one home with me, as a pet.
