Family Cocoberry

The Hanging Cocoberry is a species of berry-producing plants that grow on the side of rocks and cliffs, hence the name. Hanging Cocoberries have two separate subspecies, one bearing yellow berries and the other teal berries. They have a very thick and heavy shell to prevent consumption by whiskerpillars and other predators. As a tradeoff, cocoberries are unable to produce juice; instead, the seeds secrete a creamy substance that can be ground up to produce syrups.

Cocoberries must be weighed down by ten Pikmin, or a single Purple Pikmin, in order for them to break off the plant and be transported back to the ship. When a berry is harvested, the plant needs a full week before another berry grows in its place. Each berry produces a single dose of syrup, making them hard to come by if other methods of collecting syrups are not known.

Notes

Ship's analysis

Durability: B / Sugar content: A / Growth rate: C. This species of berry germinates in damp cracks and crevices. The seeds are filled with a cream-like substance and various oils. They can be ground up into syrups.

Sacho's sale review

The oils these seeds produce are highly multipurpose and can be used to create various skin care products and perfumes. Rating: 8.5/10.

Louie's cooking tips

I managed to create various jams, jellies, and preservatives with these berries. They can add sweetness or a savory tang to any dish.

The Hanging Cocoberry is a plant that appears in Pikmin Evolution replacing Burgeoning Spiderworts as the primary harvestable plants. They have a similar stem structure to the spiderwort, but the cocoberry's stem has a more pronounced arch and rather than having several small berries to harvest, the Hanging Cocoberry has a large, pear-shaped berry to harvest. Hanging Cocoberries are important plants as each berry contains a syrup, a very important consumable item due to the powerful elemental effects each type of syrup produces. Hanging Cocoberries come in eight different colors, consisting of red, orange, yellow, green, blue, cyan, purple, and gray. Each type of Cocoberry contains a different syrup that corresponds to their color, red syrups are found in red Hanging Cocoberries for example. Hanging Cocoberries are found in every biome, but certain biomes favor certain colors, for instance deserts are more likely to contain red and orange Hanging Cocoberries while beaches are more likely to contain blue and grey Hanging Cocoberries. To collect the syrup, one must have your squad of Pikmin swarm and attack the berry, breaking it open and revealing the syrup within for collection. Hanging Cocoberries are quite easy to grow, only requiring a few days of proper sun and water before maturing and growing their bulb, however difficulty arises when trying to protect the berries from being stolen by predators. The berry of the Hanging Cocoberry attracts multible predators, some small and harmless like the Ravenous Whiskerpillar, and some more deadly such as the Elongated Mockiwi or even the Emperor Bulblax. As such harvesting any wild Hanging Cocoberries is a top priority when the day starts so that your patience won't be wasted due to greedy predators. Hanging Cocoberries have a bit of a risk factor to them, as when they grow a new berry they have a chance to not produce a syrup, but rather a Foolix, this can be told by how a berry with a Foolix inside has a shinier coloration than a standard berry. However encountering a Foolix is a blessing in disguise as they can drop the seed to the Cocoberry plant they were feeding on, which can be used to produce a syrup plant inside settlements, which can create free syrup daily without the need for harvesting. As such encountering a Foolix inside a berry can be just as valuable as finding the berry by itself. Hanging Cocoberries tend to be found alone, meaning only one berry can be harvested per plant, but during intense rain there is a chance multiple Cocoberry plants can be clumped together, providing more syrup. Overall the Hanging Cocoberry is a very important plant to harvest, as the services they provide can bring several great benefits.

Ivy's journal

A very common plant found on this planet, the Hanging Cocoberry contains very identical genetic information with each of its subspecies. However the temperature of where the Hanging Cocoberry grows can trigger a hormonal effect that changes what chemicals they produce. Scietisits have discovered how to synthesis these chemicals, allowing the creation of some of our most essential tools.

Leni's recipe book

Okay so the red berries are both spicy and sweet, the orange berries have a tangy punch to them, the yellow berries are too sour for my taste, the green berries have an acidic aftertaste, the blue berries are very watery, the cyan berries are quite minty, the purple berries have a strong but delicious aroma to them, and the gray berries are too hard to consume, did you get that, okay good.
