The Glossy Periscorp is an enemy introduced in Pikmin V. It is a black scorpion, and its most notable feature is that its head is located on the end of its tail instead of a stinger. It has a truncated body protected by a single large piece of exoskeleton, leaving only the head, which is always raised, vulnerable to attack. This creates the difficult situation that being in range to throw non-Yellow Pikmin also puts one in danger of being attacked by the Periscorp, which jabs with its head to eat the Pikmin. While it has claws like its larger relative, the Obsidian Periscorp, they remain folded in front of its body and are not used.

“Members of the Caudifuge family are known in the scientific community for their bizarre internal biology. The venom glands attached to an individual's head are unusually large to the point that they interfere with normal functions of the head. It relies on a second brain at the front of its main body to coordinate its movements. This suggests that their head and tail may have once been reversed.”

“It is recommended to use Yellow Pikmin, as their better throws allow you to attack it while remaining out of reach of its lunge. Because the lunge is straight forward, circle strafing offers some safety when up close.”
