One chronoton storm appears in Pikmin: Doomed Time, when Olimar, Louie, and Pikness pass through it on their way to PNF-404. Chronoton storms are revealed to be as dangerous as they are rare. Individuals that do not avoid them will have their age accelerated or reversed by varying degrees depending on the duration of exposure, ranging from a mild change to ultimately dying. Inorganic matter that enters a chronoton storm will disintegrate.
Fortunately, none of the three leaders experienced any severe negative effects, and Pikness in fact benefitted from exposure, as he gained the power of limited time manipulation. At the time of exposure, Olimar hid in his safety bunker, Louie was using a microwave, and Pikness was using his radar. Louie's microwave and Pikness' radar could have warped their personal fields enough to prevent any harmful effects.
Chronoton storms have two distinct causes. One is black holes, which generate chronoton storms when they rapidly alternate between active and inactive, phasing matter the black hole pulls in into chronotons that then clump together and travel throughout the galaxy. The second cause is large disturbances in the fabric of space-time, which dissolves into chronotons upon contact with the regular universe.
