The Roving Snitchbug is a type of snitchbug in Pikmin: Elemental Speciation that wanders about a large portion of the area it is found in. It swoops down toward Pikmin at high speeds, scooping up to four at a time, and, if successful at grabbing any, carries them around for a short time before putting them into its translucent green abdomen and then flying away to snatch more Pikmin later. The more Pikmin it carries, the slower it moves, and the longer it lingers after stealing Pikmin. It can not be brought down from the air very easily without it carrying at least some Pikmin due to its powerful wings. When it is killed, its abdomen bursts, and the Pikmin within, if any, are released; if defeated while in the air, the Pikmin it holds are planted into the ground, but if it is grounded before defeat, the Pikmin simply regress one maturity stage, if possible.
This creature's name is based on a combination of the Latin word lata, which means wide, and pella, which is similar to the Latin word for feather, penna.
Notes
Olimar's notes
- “This creature seems to lack much space for vital organs except a large stomach which rests below its main body and is a translucent green color. This stomach-like organ seems to function as both a method of breathing and a method of eating. Its lightweight body and larger antenna wings make it a fast flier, and very hard to weigh down or hit at all.”
Louie's notes
- “It may be mostly exoskeleton, but that doesn't mean you can't make use of it. If you ever want a bit of variety in your nachos, use fragments of it as a chip substitute.”
Shacho's notes
- “They never tire, and they can carry so much weight so easily! Forget drones, trained snitchbugs are the future of package transport!”
