Just wondering
Why do you guys on the staff mercilessly delete any attempts at giving users a reasonable choice that they can stay or go to the independent wiki? You act as if it shouldn't exist! 67.232.180.66
- Hi, sorry for missing this question, I've been away.
- We have no objection at all to you having an alternative wiki, or to you promoting it in places other than on Wikia. It's up to you where you edit, on Wikia or off, and we won't try to stop you if you choose off-Wikia. What we do object to, is you using our service for your promotion. It's like expecting Firefox to add an advert for Internet Explorer to the start page of their browser, or expecting Coke to include a leaflet about Pepsi with every can. Firefox not promoting IE doesn't mean people don't have a choice, or that Firefox thinks that IE shouldn't exist (although they may think that, I don't know ;) It just means that IE needs to find other ways to promote their service.
- Of course, there's a difference in that the content here was partly written by people who created the other wiki, but that doesn't give them the right to misuse Wikia or damage any Wikia wiki. What they do have right to do, as they have done, is to copy the content to anywhere they want to (as long as they keep to the license conditions). That's not just something we allow, it's something we firmly believe in and actively support with our choice of licensing for the wikis created here. Of course we'd prefer for people to stay here, and we try to make Wikia a place where people want to stay, but we still support the principle of community-built free content. That's what Wikia was built for after all.
- So, to come back to your question, we are fine with people having a choice. That's part of our philosophy. We are not fine with you using Wikia as a tool to promote your alternative, or trying to damage this wiki in ways that actually take away that choice. --Sannse 01:23, July 31, 2012 (UTC)
