The Tile Crusteroid is a species of crustelore appearing in Pikmin Evolution. They are small crustaceans with a thin blue body and a noticeable square head, but despite this, they are also dangerous stealth predators that live in areas with rocky or tiled terrain. They spend their time completely underground, disguising themselves as part of its surrounding terrain, being indifferent to any large animal that steps on top of it. It does, however, hate being stood on, even by enemies, and will break its disguise to bite whatever is on it, inflicting minor damage and making the animal flee in terror. When a small animal like a mandiblard or Pikmin crosses the crusteroid's tile-shaped head, it will shake violently, scattering and disorienting its prey before slurping them up with its thin tongue and eating them. This behavior can lead to confusing surprise ambushes for those unaware of a Tile Crusteroid's presence. Placing a bomb rock on top of them will give them quite a shock, the detonation blowing their cover and rendering them vulnerable. Alternatively, an arguably more effective tactic is to place some Elixer Pikmin charged with fire over a Tile Crusteroid, as the resulting explosion can instantly kill the creature, easily making them the optimal Pikmin to use against them. The Tile Crusteroid's behaviors make it an annoying enemy to face, which makes tricking it into getting blasted by an explosion all the more satisfying. Notably, when killed, the Tile Crusteroid only leaves behind the tile or stone on its head, which is light enough for a single Pikmin to carry.
