The Sun Candypop Bud is a candypop in Pikmin: The Continents that thrives in intense sunlight and heat. When clouds cover the sun or the sun sets, a Sun Candypop Bud will retract into the sand of its desert habitat, its petal naturally digging into the sand and effectively hiding the plant under the resulting mound of sand. This process does not harm the candypop as it has evolved to protect itself from intrusive sand grains. When sunlight and heat return, a Sun Candypop Bud will push itself out of the sand by using its two-meter-long roots. If Pikmin desire to become a Solar Pikmin, they must brave the harsh heat and landscape of the desert and find a Sun Candypop Bud. Seventy percent of Pikmin that attempt to do so die, of hunger, thirst, or exhaustion. Those that survive long enough to find a Sun Candypop Bud must often struggle into it as the hot desert sun drains their energy.
